What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas ... and probably won't be coming to a record store near you.Garth Brooks' 1998 'Double Live' set is one of the best-selling concert CDs in history, but it's too soon to say if the country superstar will release a companion culled from his forthcoming five-year residency at the Wynn Las Vegas Encore Theater. In fact, the country icon cringed a little at the suggestion.
"That's tough," he said backstage at the Encore, following his Oct. 17 announcement to come out of retirement. "The great thing about the live thing is you can go back and fix stuff. When it's just you and your guitar ... " Garth paused and whistled, "You better hit it, and I'm not a guy for hitting it. This isn't a statement of humbleness; this is a statement of honestly. Hearing it live, it goes by a lot better. When you play it back, it's like 'Oh! I don't remember it sounding like that.'"
Plus, the biggest-selling solo artist of all time has himself to compete with. "I'm so in love with ['Double Live']. I love the live album, so I think I'll stay with that," Garth insisted. "We'll be recording just so we can hear the quality of it, but I can't imagine it being good."
We beg to differ.
Garth will perform at the Encore Theater for 15 weekends per year, for the next five years. His first show there is Dec. 11. Click here for tickets.
