George Strait still works cattle on his ranch in South Texas and does a little team roping, as well, when he's not making hit records. But the King of Country Music says he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his dad, who's still buying cattle and working the land at age 87. George tells Cowboys and Indians he particularly loves hunting season at home, but travels all over to indulge his passion for hunting and fishing. "I spend most of hunting season at the ranch. We all love to hunt whitetails, and we have a pretty good supply in South Texas," he says. "I also love to hunt elk in Arizona, mule deer in Utah, and I've been to Canada to hunt caribou."
George says he was raised hunting and fishing, and can't imagine life without it. His love of fishing, in fact, has taken him all over the world.
"I love to fish offshore for billfish, and have fished all over for them from the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Venezuela, Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico to the Texas gulf. I haven't made it to Australia yet, but someday I'm going. I'm getting to where I pick the calm days to go out, though. I've had enough of the rough stuff. There's nothing like hooking up to a big marlin!"
George also says he plans to go on safari this month for a third time in Tanzania.
