Carrie Underwood Fights Back Tears on New Tune

Carrie UnderwoodCarrie Underwood's latest single, 'Cowboy Casanova,' from the upcoming album 'Play On,' is already in the Top 5, even though the singer never intended the song to hit the airwaves so soon.

"'Cowboy Casanova' leaked about two weeks before it was supposed to, and an unfinished rough version got out that didn't sound anything like the finished version," Carrie tells Nashville's Tennessean newspaper. "So we had to rush the single to radio really fast, to get people to stop playing the leaked version. The video leaked, too ... everything leaks now. It's great that people are excited and want to play it, but you want it to have a proper delivery."

Carrie is pleased with all the songs on the album, from her current hit to what she describes as the 'mean' song, but she admits one of the tracks brought her to tears. "In the studio, I had a big problem finishing that song," she says of 'Temporary Home'. "I usually want to pay attention to the words while I'm singing, because you want to feel something. But on the last verse, every single time, I'd choke up. [Producer] Mark Bright was like, 'We just need it once. Just get it done once.' I remember thinking about my dog and about organizing my garage while I was singing this serious song."

Carrie has a packed several weeks coming up. Appearing on the ABC prime-time special with Robin Roberts on Nov. 10, Carrie will host and perform at the upcoming CMA Awards the following evening. In addition, she's set to perform on the American Music Awards, where she's also nominated for Favorite Female Country Artist. She'll also host her own TV special, airing Dec. 7 on Fox.

'Play On' hits stores Nov. 3.
