Dolly Parton Remembers Her First Time

Dolly Parton's first chart single, 'Dumb Blonde,' bowed in 1967, but it was a full decade earlier that a youngster from the Smoky Mountains cut her first record. Where was the future global superstar the first time she heard that song coming through the airwaves?

"The first time I heard one of my records on the radio, I was 10 years old," Dolly tells The Boot. "I cut a little song called 'Puppy Love.' I was sitting up on a counter. They played my record and I almost killed myself. [laughs] I jumped off of the counter and slid on some water on the floor. I was running around trying to turn the radio up. That was the first time I heard one of my records so that left a bigger impression on me ... because music is a big part of my family."

'Puppy Love' is one of the tracks featured on 'Dolly,' the recently-released four-disc retrospective of the singer's phenomenal career.
