Last year on the CMA Awards, first-time co-hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood garnered some big laughs for their opening segment, so it was a safe bet they'd dust off their funny bones this year, too. The pair's comic intro to the show had Brad brandishing his guitar as they sang some classic country songs, but gave them a bit of a twist.
Lampooning one of the year's most notorious media events, the co-hosts turned 'Mammas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,' into: "Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to be Kanye, 'cause cowboys have manners, they don't interrupt!"
And in referencing perennial CMA Vocal Duo champs Brooks & Dunn's impending split, they sang -- to the tune of Tammy Wynette's mournful 'D-I-V-O-R-C-E' -- everyone is sad except Sugarland."
Brad quipped that country music is "one big dysfunctional family -- "George Strait Plus 8."
Carrie noted that her co-host smelled particularly good. "Thanks," he said. 'I'm wearing 'McGraw.'" To which Carrie responded, "Coincidentally, I'm wearing Parfum by Faith Hill."
Brad also mentioned in his introduction of George Strait that the superstar won the CMA Entertainer of the Year award for the first time in 1989. "I won my first award that year, too: Employee of the Month at Tastee Freez."
