Carrie Underwood: She Sings, She Hosts, She Writes!

Carrie UnderwoodCarrie Underwood's new album may be titled 'Play On,' but could just as easily have been called 'Write On.' The superstar singer co-wrote several tunes on the chart-topping disc, including the fastest No. 1 single of her career, 'Cowboy Casanova,' penned with Brett James and Mike Elizondo.

And while she does occasionally leave home for writing appointments, Carrie hardly considers it a day at the office.

"No, I love it," she tells radio host Jeff Foxworthy. "When I say work, it's really not work. It is a little grueling just because you go in and you're wracking your brain all day long. It's like writing a term paper every day. But it's great because I love the finished product."

That said, Carrie confesses that not every writing session yields successful results. "You can't write a hit every day. If I could, I may give up singing and just be a writer. [Laughs]. You go in and some days are absolutely amazing; and some days it's kind of a little bit more of a challenge. I would never say that any day's a bad day and bad things come out of it, because you learn something every single day, but some days are a lot more fun when you're really on to something."

Carrie could be on to yet another Female Vocalist of the Year trophy at tonight's CMA Awards, which she's co-hosting with Brad Paisley. Watch the fun beginning at 8:00 PM ET live on ABC. And stay up-to-the-minute with The Boot and our behind-the-scenes coverage of the star-studded show!
