CMA Award Winners 2009

Taylor SwiftTaylor Swift was the belle of the ball at the 43rd Annual CMA Awards, leading the pack of winners with four trophies: Female Vocalist, Album of the Year, Video of the Year and the night's biggest honor, Entertainer of the Year.

"I will never forget this moment, because in this moment everything that I have ever wanted has just happened to me," a teary Taylor said upon receiving the coveted Entertainer trophy, becoming the youngest artist in history to win the award.

Brad Paisley and Lady Antebellum each had two CMA wins. It was Brad's third consecutive win for Male Vocalist, and he also shares an award with buddy Keith Urban, as they took home Musical Event of the Year for their duet, 'Start a Band.' Lady A beat Rascal Flatts' streak of six consecutive Vocal Group of the Year wins with their latest honor, which accompanied their win for Single of the Year for 'I Run to You.' (See a full list of winners and nominees below.)

Show hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood kept the audience entertained with witty banter throughout the night, starting the show off by singing a humorously revised version of a Willie Nelson classic: "Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to be Kanye." Fans were also dazzled by eclectic performances by the likes of Reba, Best New Artist winner Darius Rucker, Miranda Lambert, the Zac Brown Band, Lady A, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Duo of the Year winners Sugarland, Jason Aldean, Billy Currington and both show hosts. And in true CMA fashion, it wasn't all country stars on stage. Kid Rock sang with Jamey Johnson on 'Between Jennings and Jones,' Vince Gill joined Daughtry on a duet that appears on the rockers' new album, Brooks and Dunn performed with ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Dave Matthews joined Kenny Chesney on their duet, 'I'm Alive.'

i agree that taylor should have got something but honestly entertainer of the year? her music isn't even real country music it SHOULD be classified as pop. why don't they do that? everyone who listens to her music will listen to it if they just change the genre name to a more sutiable one. that way she won't be accepting awards for country music instead of people who actually sing COUNTRY music. her music is amazing but i just don't agree with it being called country. i know that a lot of country artists are starting to sound like that too but they wouldn't have to if more of the new "country" artists would just sing something else like they should.

Taylor Swift's music outsold every living artist-in every genre of music-this year. She sold out multiple nights in New York City-in ten minutes. The ratings for this year's CMA's were historically high..."sports playoff" high. Kenny Chesney sells out stadiums...country music is growing in popularity in staggering numbers...due in large part to alot of the new young artists.
To those complaining about "real" country...come on! There's never gonna be another Johnny Cash! The legend lives on though, and his music still sounds as good now as it did then. So new fans discovering country because of Swift, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, etc. will be exposed to Cash, and Haggard, and Hank Williams...and the legends will get a whole new generation of fans.
Carrie and Taylor aren't Reba...but can't we listen to all three? It's not like you have to choose...
For alot of us newer fans...who loved rock'n'roll from the 70's...country nowadays is great! Rock died somewhere along the road...don't care for rap or hip-hop...and the Britney/Christine Aquliera/Lady Gaga style sure as hell doesn't appeal to me.
So I have a mix tape..a little Cash, some Keith Urban, the Eagles, Toby Keith, Taylor Swift, Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Patsy Cline, Kris Kristofferson, etc....musical heaven for me.
And Carrie Underwood looked HOT in her CMA performance last night!! For those complaining how country is disgracing itself with the sexiness and revealing outfits, I have a couple gems for you to think about and her name is Dolly Parton!

Well, Gregolt648 (I'm just gonna call you "Dumbass" for short,ok?) you win the award for "Biggest Crybaby" to ever post to a blog. Feel better? Congratulations!
Now, pretend you're a grown-up, at least ACT like a man ( cause no man would ever whine the way you do) and apologize for thinking that the world revolves around you.
Stop feeling sorry for yourself....you're lonely, under-appreciated, and overlooked because that's the kind of jerk you are. Now go dry your eyes, change your diaper, grow the f*ck up, and be a man!!!!

Most of the winners I agree with, but come on Darius Rucker as New Artist! What a joke. He has toured the world as a professional singer for over 16 years. THE ONLY REASON HE WON IS BECAUSE HE IS BLACK. GIVE THE AWARD TO THE REAL "NEW ARTIST!!"

I for one don't understand why Taylor Swift was awarded all those top awards unless everyone just felt sorry for her after the whole Kanye West ordeal. She is entertaining, especially to her teen market, my tween daughter loves her! But she has terrible intonation problems when she sings live and doesn't have near the voice or stage presence that Carrie Underwood or Martina McBride have or for that matter any of the nominees she was up against last night! I think it was a shame that the top honors were awarded to a young girl who has a whole career in front of her and not awarded to the ones who truly deserve it. One award would have been plenty for Miss Taylor Swift and certainly not Entertainer of the Year!

Taylor winning Female Vocalist over Reba OR Martina was shameful! Seriously Taylor is talented as far as a songwriter but too bad she can't sing worth a lick! That award should've been Reba's, hands down!
