Taylor Swift Finds Her Edge

Next month, Taylor Swift will no longer be a teenager. The country superstar turns 20 on Dec. 13. And after her performance at the CMA Awards on Wednesday, some are wondering if leaving her teens behind might mean leaving her squeaky clean image behind, as well.

Singing her new song, 'Forever and Always,' Taylor -- clad in skin-tight black leather pants, knee-high boots and a flowy silk blouse -- added a bit more choreography to her performance than usual, even sliding down a pole! What did you think of the performance from the 43rd Annual CMA Awards' top winner of the night? Watch it below, then let us know what you think!

Taylor's rock edge is nothing new, however. She held her own with Def Leppard at their 'CMT Crossroads' taping, dancing up a storm with the hard rockers who burned up the charts before she was even born. And just last week, she dared to drop a 9-letter D-word on 'Saturday Night Live,' singing in her opening segment, "I like writing songs about d-----bags who cheat on me / But I'm not going to say that in my monologue / I like writing their names into songs so they're ashamed to go out in public / But I'm not going to say that in my monologue."

Looks like Taylor is growing up! But we have to say, her role model status is still good in our book.

I don't know how she got this far she can't sing, she is not country and the entertainer of the year award was a joke, she can't hold a candle to Reba or Matina I thought the performance she came out with on the awards show was someting you would see on a hard rock concert.

Good song writer.......TERRIBLE SINGER/Entertainer. Sorry folks, I cannot stand her voice, I have to change the station everytime I hear her whiney voice...and I am sorry, because I do enjoy the songs...just not the singer or 'dancer'.

Leave the girl alone already! She has a huge following that loves her. I knew as soon as I saw her slide down the pole that the conservatives were going to have a major fit even though it was innocent. As far as country music goes, that has evolved over the years just like every other facet in our lives. In the '70's, a lot country music was played on mainstream music stations too. There were also complaints back then that country wasn't country anymore (Remember the huge hooplah over John Denver?). Just get off it already haters- let her enjoy her moment and don't listen to her if you don't like her. Y'all hate so much that you look for ANY excuse to spew it whenever, wherever- just shut up for once.

She is a good songwriter but cannot sing at all. Why all the hype? She is the country music version of Brittany as far as singing goes.

Several different times during the awards show I thought there was a problem with the sound system and the acoustics on stage. I am a musician with perfect pitch and know that problems with a sound system can distort a singer's voice and tone. Sound checks are supposed to prevent this problem, but sometimes they don't.
Taylor can sing in tune just fine and she is amazingly multi-talented. She has taken basically country songs she has written and reworked them in different ways to show how versatile musical expression can be and how country music can relate to different genres and audiences. She has taken leadership in the field with the way she pushes the envelop. Her choreography in this performance was sophisticated -- spoofing and humorous sometimes and iconic and expressive at others. That's great art! She performed very difficult moves while singing in an outfit including elements of country design details adapted to current fashion forward styles. Why not? That's what art is about in part, . . . taking your feelings and thoughts and your genre and doing innovative things with them, and then coming back to your basic roots again. No one does it better! Taylor truly deserved the awards she got. I really look forward to her next creative endeavor. Each of us will see for ourselves which of her artistic interpretations we like best. She's been writing, singing, and performing since she was 12 and now at 19, her 7 years of hard work have set a wonderful example for kids to see what is possible in their generation, . . . and she encourages them to find who they can be and to do their thing. She shows them they can do it without drug and sex addictions or squandered fortunes and disaffected families. I love it! To Taylor, . . . keep following your inspirations and know that the way you are using your extraordinary gifts is truly a gift to us all.
God bless you. Fans around the world thank you.

the pole was nothing. At least she had clothes on unlike miley cyrus. super short shorts and a shirt that her bra is hanging out of, compaired to pants and a shirt that shows nothing inappropriate. come on. the only reason why this came out is because they can't find anything bad on her and are desperate.

Ah people. They have to grow up sometime. I know you don't want her to loose her sweet innocence but just because she's getting older doesn't mean she's going to go wild and out of control. Taylor has always proven to have a very wise, mature head on her shoulders and I don't see her veering from that any time soon. She is well grounded. Always has been. Always will be. She has a strong sense of self and she knows what she wants, where she wants to go in life and how she wants to get there and she's not going to let other's deviate her from her chosen corse. And because of all of she will go on to be a very successful and happy person.
