Taylor Swift left the 2009 CMAs as the winner of four awards -- no, wait, make that five! During dress rehearsals for the show, Taylor was surprised backstage with a very special honor, as Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn presented her with the 2009 CMA International Artist Achievement Award.
The award -- won by Brooks & Dunn last year -- recognizes outstanding achievement by a U.S.-based artist who contributes to the awareness and development of country music outside the United States.
"This is beautiful!" Taylor said while accepting the special honor. "Thank you so much! This is an awesome way to start the day!"
Taylor's second album, 'Fearless' has achieved gold and platinum certification in fourteen countries on five continents. In addition to the U.S., those countries include Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, The Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.
Taylor's hit song "Love Story" reached No. 1 in Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, and the UK, was a Top 5 hit in the Czech Republic, Ireland, and Norway; Top 10 in Denmark and Finland; and Top 20 in Greece, Holland, Hungary, Spain, Sweden, South Africa, and on the European Chart.
The young superstar traveled the globe performing promotional and concert tours in Australia, Canada and Europe in 2008 and 2009. Among her sold out shows and appearances was the high profile V Festival series in the UK.
Past winners of the CMA International Artist Achievement Award, which was originally known as the CMA International Touring Artist Award, include Shania Twain, Reba McEntire, Dixie Chicks, Dolly Parton, Keith Urban, Dwight Yoakam and Dierks Bentley.

To tell you the truth I don't think the girl is that good. Too much jumping around on stage, a Mick Jagger wanna-be. What has happened to country singing, songs aren't country like they used to be with these newer young singers, especially the young girls. The older people that have been singing country for years are so much better, like Reba, Dolly etc etc. Also the en are much better singing country but not the young newer ones as much.

What Happen to Country Music at the ’09 CMA Awards?
I think Taylor Swift is a nice girl and I can understand how little kids and teens could like her so much, but it is ridiculous for her to even be considered in the Country Music genre. I feel like the CMA’s have lost all credibility after the 2009 CMA awards on ABC this week. It is supposed to be about Country Music talent and not about popularity. Most importantly, it is supposed to be about Country Music singers not Pop music singers. I can accept the fact that she won album of the year because of the many record sales that were made this year, but female vocalist of the year? That is a slap in the face to the many truly talented female vocalist winners from past years. Taylor’s performance on the CMA awards show was mediocre at best and completely discredits her winning the vocalist and entertainer of the year awards. The women nominated in the category of female vocalist of the year should be disappointed with the so-called “Industry Professionals” who voted and just lowered the standards of such a prestigious award. The CMA’s “Board of Directors” should be ashamed. Maybe they should change the name from Country Music Association to Children’s Music Academy.

Are we jealous?

I agree whole heartedly! Taylor is a talented song writer, but a really aweful singer! I can see the attraction to young teenie boppers...but real country music, I don't think so. I find myself purposefully changing stations when I hear her first whine in any song...sad, because I like the song! I just can't stand the voice behind the singer. Goes to show a pretty face can get you anything today......who cares about real vocal talent anymore?
