If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Probably X-ray vision ... and I don't need to say why! [laughs]
Of all the movie characters you've seen, which one is most like you?
Probably 'Forrest Gump.' I just like Forrest Gump. Maybe I'm a little smarter than him, maybe I'm not. Probably because of the whole Southern aspect of his character and for some reason I always wind up on the better end of all deals ... I've just kind of got the old silly boy luck!
Who's your favorite author?
John Irving. 'A Prayer for Owen Meany' is my favorite book of all time. Anything I've ever read by John Irving has been really well written. I really love the book, and the movie was done really well, too.
Your dad is a peanut farmer. If you could pick any other occupation in the world to do besides music, what would you choose?
I would like to be a heart surgeon or brain surgeon ... something with that knowledge and the ability to save a life would be pretty cool. I wasn't that good in science class, though.
What's the funniest thing that's happened to you during a live show?
I had a buddy who was having relations backstage with a girl one time, and we accidentally saw that during the set while we were onstage. They were in the crow's nest up there -- it was pretty funny. I'll leave out the names though!
What's one thing fans might not know about you?
That I wake up every morning at 6:15 AM. I'm typically the first to go to bed on the bus and the first to get up, and I love to make the coffee in the morning. I'm enjoying getting up earlier these days -- just get up and get to clear your head and think about things.
What one song do you wish you'd written?
'What I'd Say' by Earl Thomas Conley. I'm a big-time fan. I grew up listening to him.
If you opened a restaurant, what would be your house specialty?
Probably chicken and rice soup. My dad used to make it, and it's good stuff. It'll cure everything!
If you had two tickets to any concert in the world, who would you see and why?
Alabama. I never got to see them perform, and I always regretted that. I'm a huge fan of theirs.
If you were president, what one thing would you change about the U.S.?
I would loosen up gun laws and exercise our forefathers' right to bear arms. I am bothered by that for the protection of the country as a whole. If everybody in this country has a gun, it's gonna be pretty hard for anybody to invade us and win.
What's one thing you'd change about the music industry if you could?
Try to put country back on top. Tear down the walls and stereotypes of country music and make it where people don't have any negative connotations about it ... just make it a positive thing.
