Carrie Underwood Has a Message for Fellow 'Idol' Alums

Carrie UnderwoodCarrie Underwood has a little advice for recent finalists from her musical alma mater 'American Idol' -- dance with the one that brought ya!

The superstar says she finds it strange that contestants will change their musical style upon leaving the show, especially since fans -- through their votes -- tell them exactly what they want to hear from them.

"I feel like any contestant that ... that does well on 'Idol' has to stay true to what people voted for," Carrie tells Reuters News Service. "I've seen it happen a few times where people are one thing on the show, and then they get off the show and try to do something else."

Idol champion Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert are both releasing albums this month, while third-place finisher Danny Gokey is set to release a country CD early next year.

Carrie has stated she's a fan of both Kris and Danny. She'll be joined by 2008 'Idol' winner David Cook on her upcoming holiday special, set to air Dec. 7 on FOX.

Interesting that Carrie would say that they need to stay true to their roots so to speak... since hers were country based on the show. With some of her latest stuff that I have seen her do that isn't very country in my opinion. In fact she looked anything but on the recent AMA's and the CMA's. Her song Cowboy Cassanova... not country!!!

This article has nothing to do with Carrie being homophobic. She is just stating that in GENERAL people switching genres (when on American Idol, they clearly weren't labeled in that genre) is wrong. I think that it is Taylor Hicks, I heard that he is going country. Nothing has to do with Adam just because his name wasn't mentioned. Calm down people, I love Carrie and am proud to see her raise her voice on some issues.

I really don't think Carrie was dissing anyone just stating a fact. I truly believe her HUGE success comes from the fact that she did not forget where she came from. She has become what Simon Cowell predicted in being the most record selling American Idol ever. And the fact that she constantly mentions American Idol after winning awards and appearing on the show, still shows she has not forgotten her roots. Like the person above said she just preferrs someones music over another, no biggie. We all are entitled to our likes and dislikes. Thats the great thing of America!

I could not agree with you more Leseste. Wow, your name is beautiful. What's it's origin? Carrie Underwood is just giving other Idol contestants some good advice and nothing more. It's just a crying shame how people interject "negativity" where it does not belong. She did not "diss" Adam Lambert at all. No one put a "gun to his head" and forced him to openly declare his sexuality. That was his choice and Carrie Underwood did not judge him because of it.

Carrie give the advice to other alums of American Idol to stay "true to the style of music their fans voted for" however I believe it's pretty hypocritical of Underwood when she was "good girl" country on American Idol and now she completely changed her style to "bad girl" pop like Britney Spears.

She may be talented but is not true to country music and does not now represent the true country genre.

I am no fan of his either and it has nothing to do with his sexual preferences. I don't care for his music or his arrogance. Carrie, too, for whatever reason has a right to name who she chooses... Get over it! Homophobic, always has to be one....

Carrie's point is to stick the music you know and did on the show. That's what she did and why she has been so successful.

By the way, I can't stand Adam Lambert and his screaming. Looks like he did stick to what he did on the show, I listened to his CD online and he is STILL screaming. YUCK! Maybe Carrie listened too and doesn't like his screaming either.

I could not stand Adam. It had nothing to do with him being gay. I love the music of Elton John and Freddy Mercury and and many others who have great songs and voices. For me, it was the screaming. Adam screamed like he doing a bad heavy metal singer impersonation while jumping out of an airplane. I did really enjoy his version of "Mad World." He just sang. He didn't scream. Maybe Carrie couldn't stand his screaming either.
