Taylor Swift Insists She's Country

Taylor SwiftTaylor Swift may have just won the American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Artist, but she maintains she's still country to the core.

"I think a country song is when you are singing about being proud of your life," Taylor tells CNN. "I sing about love and boys, and that's my life. So that's what fascinates me -- feelings. And so I think if you're singing and writing songs about the way that you live your life, that's a country song."

The 19-year-old continues her unprecedented winning streak, including snagging five American Music Awards and four CMA Awards. But the newly crowned AMA Artist of the Year insists all the trophies she's accumulated this year aren't her measure of success. "I think for me the most satisfying thing is going out with my first headlining tour and having every show sell out. That was something that I never dreamed would be so quick to happen," she says. "Putting Madison Square Garden on sale and having it be sold out in 59 seconds. I can't believe that. I'm still completely blown away by that."

The sold-out Fearless tour, which has been extended into 2010, proves to Taylor that dreams do come true. "I thought I was going to do what my parents did. They went to college. They went into business and I loved music, and I never imagined that I would actually get to do that as a job. It's wonderful."

The debate is not whether she is country or not. Country music has always evolved and always will. She cannot sing! Eveyone knows that and whoever says different is tone deaf. She won the awards because she sells albums. And before you all jump on me and say that she sells albums because she is good, think about why she is selling albums. It's all about money and that is why she is being rewarded. Those of you who love her, go forward in your ignorance, keep on buying.............

Most of Taylor's songs are more pop than country and the ones that aren't she re-mixed for pop radio to make them pop. She doesn't sound country and she's played on pop radio as much as or more than country radio. So she's more pop than country and that's how she won all those AMAs.

If you do some research, you'd know that country music has always been represented on the Billboard 100. The 70's were quite the glory days for country music. John Denver, Kenny Rogers, Charlie Rich, Freddie Fender, Crystal Gayle, Roy Clark, etc. etc were huge.

It doesn't matter what Taylor wears. She could be buck naked and still it wouldn't have any baring on what type of music she sings (no pun intended). Everyone can argue till their blue in the face what their idea of Country Music is and I can guarantee that no two views will be exactly alike. The truth is that Country Music, like all other forms of music changes and evolves over the years. What was considered CM 50 years ago would be considered Bluegrass or Hillbilly today, and the popular CM of today would have been considered Rock-n-Roll 50 years ago. Times change, perceptions change, tastes change and evolve. Now I'm not saying that the Classic sounds of CM have no place in CM today, on the contrary. If it wasn't for Classic CM we wouldn't have the popular CM sounds we have today. They go hand-in-hand and each depend on the other for survival in this competitive world.

you say why play on pop radio... *cough* Just so you are aware, if you are educated at all you dumb f**ks, pop Radio is "Popular Radio. Give taylor at least a little respect because at least she made it big when she was 17, she had and still has her whole life ahead of her. I myself am extremely happy for her. What has the majority of the united states population have to say about taylor for creating hope, joy, happiness, and so much more??? oh only that shes not a country singer... Just so yall know, Taylor swift is orginally from Lexington, North Carolina my friends... it doesnt get any more or less country if you are on a pop list or not! 2 more things i have to add before im done blabbing at you people. 1. She makes more money every year than half you people who talk so poorly of her. and 2. Taylor is a young adult, actually shes my age. but still none the less give the girl credit for making her life exactly what she wants it to be. she has that right not only as an american "country singer" but also as a human being! Tabloids Back off her... im sure she gets extremely irritated with the constant bad talk of her! Taylor whether your Country music is considered "Country" or not i am proud of you because you follow your own heart and your own path. this is what makes you a good person. and yes i do believe she is a strictly country singer who made it big... so once again Hence why it is POP!... its Popular music you dumb F**ks -John Winston-Salem, NC & Torrington, CT

Putting a banjo lick in a song or two and throwing in the word 'yall' doesnt make her country. Britney Spears is more country than her. BEsides, shes only in the industry thansk to her dad's $2 million dollars he paid to a producer to get her a cd. Honestly, she cant sing. Her songs are ok, they lack any real emotional depth, but her singing is like a horse in labor. ANd tell her to open up her rat eyes. ew

Geez you people are so hung up on definitions! Either you like her music or you don't. If you don't that's OK. It's as simple as that. Even if you don't consider her real country, she has her pop fans and they enjoy her music. It's no threat to country music as we know it. Change the radio station if you don't like the song. No reason to get bitter.
