Sammy Kershaw Says He Owes His Life to Guardian Angel

Sammy KershawSammy Kershaw believes in the supernatural. In fact, he says he owes his life to a guardian angel. In this very candid confession from the country star, we hear the story of how his plan to commit suicide several years ago was thwarted by what was perhaps divine intervention.

"I was living in Oklahoma. I was in the dry cleaning business," Sammy tells The Boot. "My second wife was a legal secretary. One Friday afternoon, I got served with divorce papers, and on Monday they were signed. I was living in the back of the dry cleaners. I had no family and friends there, and I was a long way from home. Things just kept getting worse, and to be honest with you, one morning I was going to blow my brains out. I had a shotgun, and I went into the boiler room and sat on a bucket and put a stick across the trigger. All I had to do was put my feet on it, and it was over.

"About that time, the buzzer went off at the front door of the cleaners. And I'm thinking, I can't do this in front of anybody, so I got up and I sat [the gun] in the corner. I walked out into the front part where the customers come in, and it was a little old lady. She had to be close to 70 years old I guess, but her hair was dyed jet black. She was carrying a little patent-leather black purse around her arm ... and little black-patent shoes and a dress, like ladies would dress back in the '20s and '30s.

"The funny thing that hit me was she didn't have any clothes in her arms. So I said, 'Can I help you?' And she said, 'No, I just came by to see how you're doing.' And we talked for just a couple of minutes. It was the weirdest feeling I got in my life. And then, all of a sudden, she said, 'Well, I'll be checking on you again from time to time.' I had never seen her before, and she walked out the front door.

"Now, I'm in this brand new little strip mall where there were four or five stores already built, and there were only two open – the dry cleaners and a convenience store. As she walked out the front door, I hurried up to follow her out to see where she was going. I opened the door, probably five seconds after her. I looked outside -- this convenience store was very busy, cars all the time -- but when I opened the door, I got this weird feeling that I was all alone in the world because I was the only person that was there – no cars, no customers, no traffic on the highway and no lady.

"I remember walking back into the dry cleaners, walking straight to the back, unloading that shotgun and never thought about taking my life again. God has looked out after me many times."

Sammy eventually moved to Nashville and became one of the biggest country music stars of the 90s, with hits like 'Third Rate Romance,' 'Cadillac Style' and 'She Don't Know She's Beautiful.' He is still recording and touring today.

I believe and I pray night and day about a family reunification . . .I have three children and yet
really only one. They had a falling out 7 years ago and now nobody talks to anybody. It is so
depressing and especially at Christmas.
I had an angel visit once when my deceased husband and I rolled over an SUV with a trailer on the back of it. We landed upside down at the side of the road. There was a man who came to the window and said, "don't worry, I'll get you out."
My husband witnessed it too yet neither of us saw anyone after we got out except the police .
I feel very sad today because I am going to be home alone tonite. christmas Eve. I feel very unimportant to my two children who live in my state.
God bless and Merry Christmas

Have a buddy who really wanted some money 20 years ago. He got it, but had to lose a finger or 2.
Careful what you wish for.

As cute as he is, and famous, he has no business being suicidal.

If you make the Most High your dwelling-
even the Lord, who is my refuge-
then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your wasys.

Psalm 91:9-11

It is AMAZING how much God loves us! He knows our every need before we do. He is ready and willing to help us anytime we ask. If you do not know the Lord as your personal Savior, now is the perfect time and season to give your heart to Him. HE LOVES YOU!

That's such a great story. I believe it. Even if the old lady were just a fig newton of Sam's mind. It still saved his life. I never want to leave a world or a cosmos where these things happen. I'm a musician also. And even though I don't believe in God the way most people do. I have to believe that not everything we see and hear comes from us. As a musician I believe in the Muse. I don't think we think of every song totally by ourselves. I can't explain it in words, but I've gotten more than one song from an outside source.

God works in mysterious ways. It's amazing that when you really need Him he is there.

I believe Sammy's story. I believe in Guardian Angel's. I also had one to save my life when I was 12.

I was a christian and I went to the beach with my Church leader and other kids. I went out in the water too far and I felt like something was pulling me under and I couldn't get back to shore. I kept screaming for help and I could see the Church leader holding my sister to keep her from coming to help me. I went under one last time and I was tired and decieded to give up and I ask the Lord to forgive me of all of my sins and take me to Heaven. All of a sudden I was pulled out of the water by a man. (big man) I was screaming and crying and he slapped me to calm me down. When we got to shore I was throwing up salt water and the Church leader ask the man to hold on so she could get his name and when we looked up he was gone. Later I found out that the man appeared out of no where. We drove down the beach so far because the Church leader did not want anyone to see her in her bathing suit. There was no one around and to this day I have no idea who he is.

My sister told me that the Church leader's son wanted to come save me and she told him its better for one to die then two. I could'nt believe it. I just thank God that I am still alive.

God bless you SAmmy and keep making music. I am a fan!

I believe that God sent him and I wish I could thank him for saving my life.

I believe this story and I think it's wonderful. It's nice to know that these things do happen and it's even nicer to hear about them. I think it takes some kind of courage to report a story like this knowing full well that you'll get plenty of flack from the public.
Wish I could experience such an obvious divine intervention.

Joe, Keep looking up … if you look far enough you’ll see Heaven, home of your savior, Jesus Christ. God so loved us all that he gave his only son so that we might me saved. Add one more to your list.. Fall down on your knees and ask God to give you the strength and the courage to climb out of your abyss. Then, do everything in your power to make that happen. We all know (deep inside), right from wrong. Take the right path every step you take. You might be surprised where it gets you. I’m going to pray for you and just so you know, I’m not perfect, never have been… but I know…. I KNOW God works in mysterious ways. He will always be there for you if you pray to him in Jesus Christ name. Believe. Believe in Jesus Christ – that is the first step you need to take.

As for Sammy and his Angel… I think it is wonderful that he shared his story. Perhaps it will help someone else who is contemplating his or her next step.
