OK, so it's Christmas -- and what do you get for the country (or rock) music fan who has everything? How about the handwritten lyrics of their favorite song by Willie Nelson or Dolly Parton? An online auction to benefit the Americana Music Association is getting underway, with handwritten and signed lyrics sheets for classic compositions such as Willie's 'On the Road Again,' Dolly's 'I Will Always Love You' and dozens of other country, pop and rock hits. Other titles that will have signed manuscripts featured in the auction include 'Please Remember Me,' written by Rodney Crowell (and recorded by Tim McGraw), Johnny Cash's early hit, 'Guess Things Happen That Way,' written by Cowboy Jack Clement, and the smash Peter Frampton rock classic, 'Baby I Love Your Way.' Other artists who have contributed their handwritten lyrics include Bon Jovi, Miranda Lambert, Rosanne Cash, John Oates, Robert Plant, Phil Everly, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello and more.
In addition to the online auction, on Monday, Dec. 14 John Hiatt and friends will perform at Nashville's Tinney Contemporary Gallery, for an intimate event, 'Lyrics -- An American Art-form' -- an auction and reception also benefiting the Americana Music Association.
If you're interested in attending that event, call the Americana Music Association at 615-386-6936. To view the artwork and bid online, visit the Americana Music Auction website.
