According to folklore, Tanya Tucker gave up the chance to record 'Happiest Girl in the Whole U.S.A.' a pop-country smash for Donna Fargo in 1972. No problem. Tanya hit it big with her first top 10 hit 'Delta Dawn' that same year at the tender age of 13, and her career exploded.Tanya's No. 1 hits include 'I Won't Take Less Than Your Love,' 'If It Don't Come Easy,' and 'Strong Enough to Bend.' Her latest album 'My Turn' was dedicated to her late father/manager Beau Tucker, who had helped guide her career from the very beginning.
So where was the then-13-year-old Tanya when she first heard 'Delta Dawn,' on the radio?
"I was in Henderson, Nevada at 207 Navaho Drive," Tanya tells The Boot. "I was sitting inside my dad's '67 Chrysler station wagon listening to WBAP Fort Worth -- Bill Mack After Midnight, and that was the very first time I heard it on the radio. Me, my mother and my dad were sitting there in the car when it came on. It was really something I'll never forget as long as I live!"
