BMI Songwriter of the Year Bobby Pinson talked to The Boot about the hit he co-wrote with Toby Keith.Toby and I were writing right up until it was time for him to shower before the show. I knew when he went to do his show that there were about three lines that were kind of dangling by a string. He knew it, too. We just didn't talk about it. He comes back from the concert and goes, "I've got the line!" We tweaked those lines a little bit, and it wound up making the song what it is.
The song means I could have done everything that was going to be right for you, but it was going to be wrong for me. Then, because of that, I wouldn't be somebody you wanted to love. Me trying to be who you thought you wanted me to be was going to wind up me being somebody I didn't want to be. That's just not meant to be. I would have lost you because of it.
