Two of the Dixie Chicks have recorded an album, but without lead vocalist Natalie Maines. CMT reports that sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire, co-founders of the Chicks, are planning to release a new album on Columbia Records. All three Chicks spent the holidays at the home of Natalie's father, Lloyd Maines, who co-produced their 2002 album, 'Home.' According to Lloyd, Emily and Martie have been cutting demos, with and without Natalie, over the past year.
"(Natalie had recorded) a little something with them about a year ago," Lloyd tells CMT. "I know that Martie's doing a fiddle record on her own, and that Emily has been demoing some of her (own) songs. I played on some of those."
Natalie's father explains that though the three Chicks are not working together professionally at the moment, they're still extremely close ... and their future as a trio remains wide open.
"They were all here at my house for Christmas," Lloyd reveals. "Everybody seemed happy and healthy. And they were back here on New Year's Eve with their families. Everybody had a great time, but I tell you ... during holidays, I don't ask any business questions, and they didn't offer any insight ... but they're definitely still an entity.
"I know that the girls seem really happy being out of the public eye. They hit it so hard for so many years. The dynamics have changed so much now, because they've all got kids that are in school. The happy-go-lucky, just-take-off-and-go situation has definitely changed."
Martie's bluegrass album consists of old fiddle tunes she learned as a kid, and she will be doing an instructional book to go along with the project. Emily plays banjo on a few of the tracks. As for Martie and Emily's album together, there's no word yet on a title, release date ... or genre.

I wonder how the Dixie Chicks are going to sound without Natalie, but maybe now they'll get playtime. I love Goodbye Earl, Landslide, and Cowboy Take Me Away.

Who gives a crap what those loser socialist chicks are doing? I have not listened to any of their music since they embarrassed the United States with their political rants. Screw them.
tlosaccoat 1-13-2010
But, I bet you are the first up ranting about your beliefs...(kind of like your ranting about your belief of what the Dixie Chicks did...who do you think gives a crap about your opinion??)
Isn't America great!! A country founded on the ideal that being able to rant about your government is a right you have as an American!! And I find it beautiful that we can do that publicly any where, any time....People die, willingly, doing exactly that in other countries. People die trying to get to this country in an attempt to have these rights.
If you believe this right is an assault on the governemnt...you should move to Cuba or any of the others....where you're thinking is more inline with their governments!

I think the Dixie Chicks are wonderful musicians and play real country music. They said what everyone thinking about George Bush, may he burn in hell for the innocent children he has killed.

The Dixie Chickens can keep their politcal views to themselves. Who gives a crap what views they hold about anything. Form your own opinions, we don't need more sheep.
Mad TV did a perfect Dixie Chicks parody on youtube.com

"keep their politcal views to themselves"...."Form your own opinions, we don't need more sheep."
Which is it keep political veiws to yourself or form your own opinion and not be a sheep...
Isn't that exactly what the Dixie Chicks did?? Formed their own opinions and didn't follow the sheep?
Persia315at 1-13-2010
Oh good! They are wonderful musicians and I am so excited to hear what they create! I think it is laughable the negative comments on their political views. It is a free country people and they said what most of the country believes now any way. There is nothing unpatriotic about questioning your government. The irony is that is the definition of being a patriot. Ask questions of what you are told and form your own opinion. In my opinion they are very talented musicians and I am happy they are back.

That's smart. Take some time off, make new friends, do some solo albums, and GROW UP!!!

Just like they are "free" to say what they want, we are "free" to not purchase their product. If we are not purchasing their product, and radio stations don't play them, well that's business.
Remember, the only guarentee of free speech is that the government will not interfere. (which it does anyway..Mcain/Feingold)
You are free to say whatever you like in this coutry, we are just as free to not listen.
kthxbye

I believe that if those girls were in our own country talking about Pres. Bush that their comments probably would have fallen on deaf ears. Being that they were in the spotlight and were superstars and were in another country, like it or not, there are unspoken rules. They made theirselves look worse than they made Pres. Bush look. I think many people felt when they made the comments about Bush they were also talking about America. Patriot: a person who loves, supports and defends his or her country. You do have freedom of speech but with this freedom comes responsibiilty.

It will be interesting to see how the chicks well do with out Natalie because she has a great voices.
Maybe it will help the chicks not get so much backlash for people. I think the chicks have every right as we do to say what we want about the asshole of a president. We as U.S. citizens are allowed to express are point of veiws. the only reason Natalie got back lash was be cause she said it in from of the whole world.
