Kellie Pickler Enjoyed a Magical 'Makeover'

Kellie PicklerKellie Pickler recently traded in her red high heels for a pair of work boots, when she joined the cast of ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,' to help build a wheelchair-accessible home for a family in need.

Working for seven days straight, Kellie and crew -- led by show host Ty Pennington, worked tirelessly to create a house that all of the Terpenning family -- including polio-stricken father, James, his wife and four children, plus his adult brother, who battles cerebral palsy, could live in comfortably. It was a week the singer will never forget.

"When you watch the show from home, it's so amazing," Kellie says, "but when you're actually here in person, it's magical."

In addition to wielding a hammer, Kellie also tried her hand at wheelchair basketball -- a sport in which James has won a Paralympics gold and bronze medal. "The basketball game kicked my butt!" Kellie admits. "I have never gotten a workout like I did with them," she says of the opposing team, who were all wheelchair-bound.

While celebrities including Patrick Dempsey, David Duchovny and Justin Chambers have donated their time to the show, Kellie is one of the few who gave an entire week of service. It was, she acknowledges, one of the most profound moments she has ever experienced. "This is by far the most incredible thing I've ever seen in my life," she says.

Kellie, who formed an instant bond with the family of seven, is proud of her contribution. "The house is functional for this family, and they deserve it. They need this ... Thank you, 'Extreme Makeover' for letting me be a part of this wonderful blessing."

Other country artists who have participated in the show include Randy Travis, Trace Adkins, LeAnn Rimes, Clint Black and Lee Ann Womack.

WOW. Kellie Pickler is right, wheelchair basketball is definatly a workout. I have tried it a couple times, because my brother is in a wheelchair and plays as a starter for the SMSU wheelchair basketball team. I am glad she can appriciate that sport, it truly is an exciting sport to watch or play. I think it is even better than regular bascketball. They have to balence the ball, move their chairs and follow the same rules of regular basketball. It truly is an amazing sport.
