Patsy Cline Boulevard Scrubbed

Patsy ClineOnly two weeks after Nashville's city planning commission approved a proposal to rename part of Music Row's famous Music Square East to Patsy Cline Boulevard, the legislation was withdrawn after complaints were made from a local resident.

"No offense to Patsy Cline," Music Square East resident Christina Lapoutre told Nashville's WSMV-TV. "I think she was an amazing, legendary musician, but part of the reason I live here is because it's Music Square East. It's a great landmark for Nashville, and internationally, it's very well-known."

Patsy Cline Boulevard was to join streets already named after famous icons, including Roy Acuff Place and Chet Atkins Place. Patsy's former producer, Owen Bradley, also has a nearby park named after him. Council members will now look for other ways of honoring Patsy, who's life was cut short at the young age of 30 in a 1963 plane crash.

Other Music Row East landmarks include performing rights organization BMI -- which represents such Patsy-associated titles as 'Crazy' and 'I Fall To Pieces,' Warner Bros. Records -- the recording home for Faith Hill and Blake Shelton, Curb Records -- home to Tim McGraw and LeAnn Rimes, and an office built on the grounds at the very corner where Patsy recorded all her hits.

um, actually i have tons of proof. there was a facebook page created to saving the street name and we had over 400 people join within 48 hours. some of these people happen to be actual inductees into the country music hall of fame. i have received countless emails from supporters who thanked me for speaking up. the support far exceeds the hate mail i have received from people like yourself. i can forward them to you if you really want me to. I spoke to Councilwoman Gilmore about the issue (she is the one who proposed the change and then withdrew the legislation - something you probably don't even know) and she said she ONLY received letters of opposition. Hmmm. could this be because she only sent letters regarding the change to people who actually own property on this road?? Obviously, if she had sent it out to the entire nation of people who this doesn't even concern, she would have received a letter of support from you and the rest of your hateful supporters. However, she didn't. And that is why she withdrew the idea. You may have lived in Nashville before, but you don't anymore - so why don't you mind your own damn business?? It shocks me that people are so quick to spread their hate to people they don't even know. You are stupid if you think that ONE PERSON stopped this. Obviously, if i had been the only voice of opposition i would have been quickly out ruled.

It actually does concern the whole nation unless you INBRED MORON think that country music only exists in Nashville???? What do you suppose gives you the right to speak on behalf of the entire nation? YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CLASS WHAT SO EVER !!! I pity the person that is either married to you or wanting to marry you,and if you have children I have pity for them too!!!

I find it hard to believe that you know every single person opposed to this idea,if you do then prove!!! Did they actually give you their permission to speak for them,if indeed they even exist???I'll tell you what, you must be one H--- of a jealous B---- and though I don't live in Nashville now,I did at one time, and have very close connections there, apparently you are blowing smoke out of your probably big A--,Because what you're saying doesn't entirely add up according to what I have heard, from people who are 100% more reliable than I trust you to be...as I have said crawl back under the rock that you came from, you ought to be ashamed of yourself!!!

Are you people retarded? Yes Patsy was an influential artist, but if you actually did a bit of research you might find that there were hundreds of letters written by other people/business who opposed the renaming of this street. Read councilwoman Gilmore's response and you will see that she mentions all the opposition. I live in Nashville and also think this is a stupid idea. How would you feel if someone renamed your street "Justin Timberlake Drive". Oh yeah and if you listen to her, you might realize that she is for renaming one of the side streets on Music Row after Patsy, just not the main street. It's shocking to me that you are so quick to judge one person who is obviously a great supporter of nashville music. Perhaps not a Patsy Cline super fan like many of you obviously are, but believe it or not Patsy did not single handedly create the country music scene. Stop being so ignorant.

you guys are all ignorant. none of you live in nashville so none of you know the situation. HUNDREDS of musicians recorded here. NOT JUST patsy cline. and the people who opposed the legislation are also the people in favor of finding a side street off music row to honor patsy's name. NOT ONE PERSON or BUSINESS on Music Square East was in favor of the change. This includes all the recording labels, friends and family members of famous musicians who helped make this road legendary. I am not just some stupid redneck supporting a meaningless cause. EVERYONE in NASHVILLE was in favor of the road staying the way it is, and finding another way to honor Patsy in Nashville. Do you have any idea how much it costs to change something like this?? With all of the businesses and studios located on this stretch of road??? Learn the facts before spreading your hate and ignorance.

I loved listening to her when I was younger and singing her songs with my mom. I don't normally listen to this kind of music but she was very good and deserves an honor. I'd also like to know who this person thinks she is and how she single handedly brought this down...
