Martina McBride and Tim McGraw have a lot on their plates these days, with Martina on the road with Trace Adkins as part of their Shine All Night tour, while Tim is also planning his own 2010 tour, along with filming the upcoming movie, 'Love Don't Let Me Down.' But on both country superstars' minds first and foremost is the devastation in Haiti, following the earthquake that ravaged the country on Jan. 12. With the people of Haiti heavy on their hearts, Martina and Tim have both partnered with the Red Cross to help bring relief to the country in such desperate need.Martina, a longtime supporter of the Red Cross, took to her website to motivate her fans. "Since the devastating earthquake in Haiti, hundreds of thousands of people are without food, clean water and medicine," the Grammy-nominated singer says. "Please find a way to help by supporting the Red Cross or finding a local outreach in your community. Donating to the Red Cross couldn't be easier. Just text the word 'Haiti' to 90999. A ten dollar donation will be added to your cell phone bill. You can donate this way up to three times. Or visit redcross.org for more information. Thanks for helping."
Tim has also teamed up with the Red Cross, in a joint effort with the Ad Council, to launch a series of public service announcements encouraging people to donate money to relief efforts in Haiti. Other celebrities joining the campaign include actors Julia Roberts, Jake Gyllenhaal, Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep and Reese Witherspoon.
Martina and Tim aren't the only artists lending a helping hand. Taylor Swift and Keith Urban both participated in last week's 'Hope for Haiti' celebrity telethon, led by George Clooney. Lady Antebellum's lead singer Charles Kelley says he and his wife made a donation to the Red Cross, while Jason Aldean used his No.1 party as a platform to encourage people to lend their support. Toby Keith offered to do whatever his friend, Haitian-native Wyclef Jean asked of him, and Pam Tillis and Buddy Jewel joined several other artists in performing 'Handel's Messiah' to raise money for the people in Haiti. And Big Kenny actually traveled to Haiti, along with a a team of doctors, to offer hands-on assistance.
