Trisha Yearwood's second cookbook, 'Home Cooking With Trisha Yearwood: Stories and Recipes to Share With Family and Friends,' is getting ready to hit stores April 6, and with it comes a whole new batch of great comfort food. The Georgia-born singer follows up her successful 'Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen,' with a new set of Southern-style dishes, all tested on her hubby Garth Brooks, who contributes the foreword to the sequel. In addition to recipes donated by family and friends -- such as her grandmother's strawberry cake, Garth's mother's cabbage rolls and Trisha's mom's homemade waffles, the singer/author also includes personal stories and some helpful hints, such as the importance of fresh-shredded cheese and how to use scissors to release a stubborn pie crust.
Some of the heartier recipes, definitely not for the faint-of-heart, include sweet potato pudding, jalapeno hushpuppies and a Lowcountry boil (described as a one-pot meal with crab oil, shrimp, smoked sausage and ears of corn). Trisha's enthusiasm for the kitchen and sharing family meals comes through in the book, especially with her handwritten notes at the bottom of the pages.
Last week, Trisha taped an upcoming episode of Paula Deen's show on the Food Network to promote the new cookbook, and the pair strapped on some oven mitts and went to work making jalapeno hushpuppies and several other recipes. You can see photos of the two in Paula's kitchen on the famed chef's Twitter page. An airdate should be announced soon.
