Jamey Johnson had a multiple-award-winning hit with 'In Color,' but now it seems he's seeing things in black and white. In its spring music preview, Rolling Stone reports that the country rebel plans to release two new albums in 2010. 'The Guitar Song,' slated for July, will feature more upbeat material including a sing-along rocker called 'California Riots' and the title track, sung from the unique perspective of old guitars hanging on a wall.
While Jamey calls 'The Guitar Song' a "white" album, he's also working on the more somber -- and as yet untitled -- "black album," which will focus more on songs about economic woes and tough times. That album is expected to be released in the fall.
Jamey says the reason for the two albums is mainly because he's been on a creative streak for the past year or more. "It's an epic journey through honky-tonk-ville," says the singer-songwriter. "If I record all this material, I fully intend to get it out."
Jamey is among the nominees for the ACM Top New Solo Vocalist. The winner of that fan-voted award, along with the Top New Vocal Group and Top New Duo with the most votes when voting closes March 23, will determine the final nominees for Top New Artist. Voting on that category then begins on April 1, with the ACM Awards presented live from Las Vegas on April 18.
