Miley Cyrus Labels Country Music 'Contrived'

As a singer, Miley Cyrus has had greater success on the pop chart than she has on the country chart. And while she noted earlier this week that she plans to take on more acting roles rather than continue to pursue her music career for the time being, the daughter of country hitmaker (and fellow actor) Billy Ray Cyrus probably won't endear herself to country fans anyway, with one of the statements from a recent interview.

"It scares me," she tells PARADE magazine. "It feels contrived on so many levels. Unless you're wearing a cowboy hat and cowboy boots and singing and whining about your girlfriend or boyfriend leaving you it's not going to sell. I think that's why my dad finally got out of it. You have to wear those cowboy boots and be sweet as pie. It makes me nervous, the politics of it all."

Miley recently recorded three versions -- including a country take -- of a song called 'Nothing to Lose,' with Poison frontman Bret Michaels.

The 17-year-old did have some flattering things to say about her godmother, Country Music Hall of Famer Dolly Parton: "She is the nicest person in the world. She's so easy to talk to. She's awesome. I love her. She always tells me just to do what I love and if I'm not having fun it's not working. I don't know how old she is at this point but every time she is on the stage she is smiling from ear to ear."

Miley's latest film, 'The Last Song' opens March 31.

I did not think Miley was a good choice to have as a mentor on American Idol. She is still so young and hasn't paid her dues enough in the business to be in that role yet. If I was an idol candidate, I would have felt a bit weird having a teenager be my mentor. Save roles like that for the future, Miley and stop trying to grow up so fast.

she honestly has to knok this little judgmental thig off ! she practically wears cowboy boots all the time anyways so what she said makes no sence! also i would much rather be "sweet as pie" than be a total slut!

Ms. Who

It would seem Ms. Miley is casting a net over all of country music. Today's country music is very different than the early days. At least the artists are being themselves and not pretending to be someone else pretending to be someone else i.e.Hannah Montana...blah!!! She's very lucky to be able to change professions and not skip a beat financially. I don't think she is a very good singer at all. I think she's where she is mainly because of her Dad and I don't think she has proven herself enough to criticize anyone let alone the entire industry.

At a performance in Longview, Texas the make-a-wish foundation brought an eleven year old girl, who was dying from cancer.Miley agreed to meet her after the show. At that time Miley was less than ten feet from the dying girl, looked at her and said "I don't have time for that". Nice, huh?

First of all the girl can not sing or act! Second of all she is not country and never was and neither is Taylor Swift. They both suck and are a disgrace to country music. And could never compare to Dolly Parton or Johnny Cash. What they play on country music radio station today is not country it is wanna be country singers trying to make it big. As for POP music you it will nevr beat the country music charts or even come close to it. You all need to get your facts straight and know the difference between country music singers and the "wanna be country singers"

And POP music isn't? Major label music is about making money, Taylor Swift, cough. The era of real bands and artists has long since passed, now it's about making the numbers who cares if you can sing or not *Taylor Swift* cough.

What a load of crap these business men have turned the recording arts into.
