Carrie Underwood Truck Driver Dies in Crash

One of Carrie Underwood's truck drivers was killed when the tractor-trailer he was driving plunged off Interstate 95 in North Stonington, Conn. on Saturday. The truck was carrying staging for Carrie's Play On tour, which went on as scheduled at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. over the weekend.

The identity of the driver, who died at the scene, would not be released until confirmed through dental records over the next few days, according to theday.com. State police said the accident happened early Saturday morning, when the truck, which was traveling north in the left lane, crossed the left shoulder and struck a guardrail, igniting the fuel tanks and sending the rig up in flames, before it tumbled over the bridge. Preliminary observations, according to one officer at the scene, indicate the driver fell asleep, since there did not appear to be any skid marks on the roadway.

The Norwich Bulletin newspaper reports that during her show Saturday, Carrie informed the crowd of the accident, dedicating her song 'Temporary Home' to the truck driver and his family. The singer remained poised through most of the song, but became a bit tearful toward the end, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.

Just last month, singer Trace Adkins' band bus was involved in a fatal accident in which two people were killed and five were injured in a collision in Louisiana. And last November, Miley Cyrus' bus was involved in an accident which killed the driver of one of her tour buses.

Carrie's next stop on her Play On tour after tonight's show in Worcester, Mass., is scheduled for Tuesday (March 23) in Hamilton, Ont.

Susanna, once again you're speaking as if you know it all. How do you know the driver was actually doing the breakdown, loading, and unloading of the equipment? Isn't it quite possible he was in the sleeper while the road crew was doing the physical work?

Let's look at another aspect of it, shall we? You said the manual labor doesn't count against their driving hours. You are right, in a sense. It doesn't count against them on line 3. However, if the driver were loading/unloading that trailer, it would count against him on line 4, which is on duty (not driving). They are allowed 11 hours driving time and 3 hours on duty (not driving), making for a 14 hour work day (in 24 hours). Depending on their pick up and delivery times, miles, and weather/road conditions (including construction, rush hour, etc.), there are times they can take a nap along the way. The wise driver makes adjustments as he can, and the responsible driver will NEVER put his life or the lives of others in jeopardy.

If you want to debate this issue further, what's to say the driver didn't suffer a heart attack? In most cases, if it's a severe attack, he wouldn't have applied the brakes because he simply wouldn't have had time. When my grandmother died, the report said that it was so sudden and so severe that she probably didn't realize what was happening. Unfortunately, there's no way to find out if he had one, or not.

Susanna-get your story straight before you post-Reba lost her band in a plane crash and not a bus crash-look it up. How dare you to assume that was the case in the driver for Carrie-if you want that changed, go to your congressman and get it changed. You appear to be so knowledgeable about it, oh...except about Reba's band. You aren't that smart and your response proves me right. How cold can you be-

I am sorry for Music and you. You don't know how to comprehend. You get all fired up just reading bits and pieces instead of all and what someone is saying. The boy talking about how hard the truckers work and I did say that. They are who I am concerned about. Talking about teams getting killed so there was somebody else was involved. This one there wasn't.I happen to care about the drivers being killed and it is happening more more. The ones I am talking about is for the stars and the equipment they haul. Someone and their bus just lately were in a wreck. The star was on another bus.Music man you don't make sick I feel sorry for you.

I am so sorry for the driver and any loved ones he left behind and to Carrie. These poor drivers it is unload the trucks load the trucks as soon as the show is over and rush to the next show. While the manual labor doesn't count as driving for their hours. They are probably not paying any attention on keeping a true log book. These stars had better take a look at them selves what they are doing to these drivers. Too many happening. It is great they want to overbook and a short span in between but the money they are making they could think of the drivers and have team drivers. Oh well I guess these people are beneath them. Reba MacIntyre lost her whole band in a bus accident. It took her a long time to ever get over that. They had been together for awhile and it was like family. She took some time off not only to put another band together but the heartbreak.
