George Strait continues his reign as the King of Country Music by setting another record on the Billboard charts. With his latest single, 'I Gotta Get to You,' climbing to No. 9 on the Country Songs survey of radio airplay, he has done what no artist in the history of any Billboard chart has ever done, notching 30 years worth of Top 10 hits.According to Billboard, George's first Top 10 hit, 'Unwound' landed there in 1981, and his latest, 'I Gotta Get to You,' marks his 82nd trip into the upper reaches of the chart. He's second only to the late Eddy Arnold, who notched an impressive 92 Top 10 hits during his career.
Among the 82 Top 10 hits for King George is a total of 44 songs that have gone all the way to No. 1, from his first, 'Fool Hearted Memory' in 1982 to his most recent, last year's 'River of Love.' He is the 12th-best-selling artist in U.S. history, with 68.5 million sold, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
George's current album, 'Twang,' has sold 551,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. George has two ACM nominations -- Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year.
