Natalie Maines Wins Again in Court

Natalie MainesDixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines, who was sued for defamation more than a year ago, has not only had her name cleared but will now recoup her court costs and attorney fees as well. The suit was raised over statements the singer made on the band's website, implying Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of one of three boys murdered in Arkansas in 1993, may have been guilty of the crime.

The murders, which attracted nationwide media attention, resulted in a trio of men, known as the West Memphis Three, being convicted and charged with the crime. Natalie, along with Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, have publicly claimed the three men currently in prison for the murders are innocent.

Terry Hobbs read Natalie's implication that he was guilty of the crime on the Dixie Chicks website, and then sued the singer for defamation. The judge dismissed the case late last year, and has now ruled that Hobbs must reimburse Natalie's $17,590 legal fees.

The Dixie Chicks are joining Keith Urban and the Eagles on a whirlwind 16-day summer tour, kicking off on June 8. Click here for tickets.

you people are just horrible. im ashamed to share a country with such close minded people. natalie maines fat? yeah right. the fattest country in the world attacking her for weighing...what...130 lbs? and as far as what she said about bush. big freaking deal. she was ashamed of him. the things you guys are saying about her is way worse. being the president doesnt mean you earn respect 100% of the time. its our duty as american citizens to judge the president. and all of you who are upset over what she said, well its nowhere near as bad as what you people are saying about obama. America- land of the free, land of the hypocritical!

Judging by these comments--there are still a lot of Americans angry with her comments-they were not welcome and like Jane Fonda--this will be what people will remember--her being a traitor

Natalie can never redeem herself after she vilified a president who was trying to protect us from terrorists--I would have thought Maines a patriot--was disappointed to find the opposite--never bought any of her music after that--never will*

I hope she's happy with the president she has, now. I'm ashamed that she's from my state, & I'm ashamed that we have allowed someone to hold this country's highest office, without having to prove his legal status in this country. She definitely subscribes to the liberal double standard. Had this Hobbs fellow remarked similarly about her, rather than it being her remarks implicating him as a murderer, he would have lost when she sued, as well, so it was a lose/lose for him. It does not surprise me that predominantly liberal courts/judges supported her bull$hit.

I dumped the Chicks when they suddenly thought that we cared what their political views are. I find it ironic that because someone can sing or act, they think we care what their opinions on real things are. Tha vast majority of these self proclaimed experts on life barely graduated from high school. I greatly enjoy laughing at them when the spout off, but I make it a point to stop buying their music or watching them on the screen. I just can't get the picture out of my mind of how stupid they really are.

All you redneck, right-wing hicks need to go back to school and learn some history. President Theodore Roosevelt (a Republican) said the following:

“The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else.”

The parents of the other two victims have asked for the case to be reopened for the same reasons. They believe that the West Memphis Three were wrongly convicted and the real killer has gone free.

Evidence was contaminated and lost. Police admitted to violating due process (i doubt any of you know what that means) and coercing testimony. One of the three convicted was a mentally retarded minor who did not understand his miranda rights and was scared into confessing by the police. His parents hadn't even consented to his questioning. How would you like it if your child was paying for someone else's crime?

Please read the news and be intelligent rather than ignorant before commenting, maybe if you took more of an interest in this country's faulty legal system than Natalie Maines you would be concerned about 3 innocent people going to jail and a murderer (not necessarily Terry Hobbs) still roaming free 17 years later....
