Growing up in Louisiana, Tim McGraw remembers being exposed to politics from a very young age."It's like a state sport, you learn about politics very early, because of the history we have," he tells New Orleans newspaper, The Times-Picayune.
As for whether he's looking to someday throw his hat in the ring and compete in that 'sport,' Tim muses, "I don't know if I'm ever overly interested in it...but I love politics, it's very interesting."
Interesting ... but also challenging and controversial.
"There's a lot of money in it, sometimes there's not a lot of glory in it ... and it's a lot of hard work," Tim points out. "There's people that give it a bad name, sure ...but a lot of noble people take that on, and there are some people who do great things."
Following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Tim and wife, Faith Hill have been active in relief efforts to help the people of Louisiana rebuild their lives, donating proceeds from their Soul II Soul show at the New Orleans Arena in 2006.
"The city's bouncing back, and there's some great things going on there," Tim notes. "It's a great American city, so much culture ... it needs to be propped up and cultivated and paid attention to."
And Tim is ever so grateful to be in a position that affords him the opportunity to help.
"From where I came from, the life I came from, and where I'm at today -- only because of this country and this system and the way things are done, am I able to do that," he humbly points out. "So if there's ever an opportunity where I felt like I could offer something, I'm not going to rule it out. But boy ... it's sure a struggle to think you're going to get into [politics]!"
As a father of three daughters -- Gracie, who turns 13 in May, and Maggie (11) and Audrey (8) knocking at the door of their pre-teens now, Tim apparently feels no struggle as far as knowing in which direction he wants to guide his daughters.
"Ultimately, when it comes down to it, you're going to support them, whatever they want to do ... and be proud of them. If they want to be in music or movies, or whatever ... I'm supportive of anything they want to do." And then with a smile, "I just would like them to have a 'Dr.' in front of their name -- like Dr. Gracie McGraw! And then go do whatever they want to do!"
And what if Maggie or Gracie or Audrey aspire to superstardom ... a la Miley Cyrus?
"Well, they all can sing, and they love it ... but that's not going to happen. Not as long as I can help it," Tim quips.
As for this Dad's very best political advice -- when it comes to raising three teenage daughters -- it's simple: "Go talk to your mother ... ask your mom. That's the best advice I can give!" he laughs.
Tim is currently in the midst of his Southern Voice tour with Lady Antebellum and Love and Theft, with their stop in Knoxville on Thursday (April 22).
