Joe Nichols Is Ready to Be a Dad Again

Joe Nichols, Heather NicholsJoe Nichols and his wife Heather, who were married in September 2007, are thinking about taking that next step. Joe, who already has a daughter, Ashelyn, from a previous relationship, says he is ready to expand his family.

"I have an 11-year-old, and while she doesn't live in my household, I've had some experience as a father, albeit not a great father at times, but I do have that experience to draw on," Joe tells The Boot. "I think the Lord gives us everything we can handle, nothing more. And up until now, I wasn't ready to take on that challenge again. We've decided we could make a pretty good little family -- the two of us, Heather and I combined with a child. So we're definitely working towards that. It would be a huge blessing, because I've got a lot of wisdom. I don't think knowledge is a good word. I don't think experience is a good word, but I think wisdom -- from my own pain, from my own trials and from my own success -- that I can offer a child. I've got a lot of love to give, too. I can't wait to be a dad again."

Joe's daughter, Ashelyn, who might be following in dad's professional footsteps, is looking forward to becoming a big sister. "She's way excited," says the singer, with a smile. "She's just now getting into her kind of "tween" age, and she's coming into her own, and she thinks she's a lot older than she is, which is tough. You've got to watch out for that sometimes. But she's a great little girl. She's a brilliant little girl that has an amazing singing voice, too. Great mind, great voice!"

Joe has been spending time at the top of the country charts with 'Gimmie That Girl' and he's getting ready to release his next single, 'The Shape I'm In.'

Congratulations Joe and Heather,

I have been a fan of your music and happy to hear that you are blessed to have a little one on the way. I recall going through a personal trial of my own and remembered hearing your song (If your going through hell, keep on going). I was going through some turmoil and heard the song for the first time driving down a country road in Missisippee. I found a 24hr Wall Mart shortly after that and bought a cd. Hope to hear you perform in Central Florida soon. May God bless your child with great health. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. Carl Motl Orlando,Florida
