"I would say 85 percent of the album is already cut," guitarist/keyboardist Coy Bowles tells Billboard. "Zac's done his vocals. I think he's got to go back and do some guitar and things of that nature. I don't want to put any dates out there, but I think it's set to come out in the fall."
The Grammy-winning Georgia group had around 50 songs to choose from, and according to Coy, the ones they've recorded are very much grounded in where they are now musically, yet at the same time, take a step in a new direction of maturity.
"It's just been seasoned a little bit," he explains. "It's still the same wine, just a couple of years older and it tastes a little sweeter.
"We still lean toward a Southern rock/country kind of thing, but there's definitely radio-friendly stuff and still kind of an island, beachy vibe," Coy continues, "and then we go off the beaten path and get into a kind of jam-band world. So I think it's going to be really representative of where we are right now."
A live version of one of their new songs, 'Colder Weather,' has already appeared on ZBB's live album, 'Pass the Jar,' released earlier this month. Their soon-to-be-released sophomore album follows their 2008 double-platinum-selling debut, 'The Foundation.'
