Miranda Lambert recently took time out from her Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars tour to help her four-legged friends. The singer's third annual 'Cause for Paws' benefit, featuring a sold-out concert combined with sponsorship and auction items, raised an astonishing $91,000."It is the best feeling in the world to know we are helping in the fight to treat and find homes for abandoned and abused animals," says Miranda. "Since we started working with the Humane Society of East Texas over three years ago, we have donated over $325,000 and they have become a 'no kill' shelter. Every year it amazes me that people spend their hard-earned money to partner with us in this fight. I am very grateful!"
The evening included performances by Miranda, Whiskey Myers, Kacey Musgraves and Nightwork, as well as a surprise performance by fiance Blake Shelton. In addition, several auction items raised thousands of dollars, including a Gibson Goddess electric guitar signed by members of ZZ Top, which netted $8,000. The generous singer donated the proceeds to both the East Texas Humane Society, as well as to assisting animals affected by the recent flood in Nashville, Tenn.
In addition to her current tour, the reigning ACM Femal Vocalist of the Year will also take part in the CMA Music Fest, held June 10-13 in Nashville, Tenn. Enjoying a quick ride up the charts with her single, 'The House That Built Me,' Miranda plans to start writing for her next album in the fall.
