Wille Nelson Explains Inspiration Behind His Latest 'Cut'

Willie NelsonWillie Nelson is famous for having cut thousands of songs in his career, inspired no doubt by many different events. But the superstar's most recent cut -- involving his signature long hair -- was inspired by nothing more than a need for comfort and convenience.

"I felt like I was pulling a trailer it had gotten so long," Willie tells the National Post. "My hair was way down below my waist, it was a problem -- it was heavy, it got dirty and I couldn't wash it because I hurt my arm playing golf. I was using a five wood and hit a rock, and when I hurt my arm that was the last straw. I couldn't take care of my hair by myself and I had to have Annie, my wife, help me wash it."

Instead of going to a professional stylist, the Country Music Hall of Famer took matters in his own hands, literally. "I just went in the bathroom the other morning with a pair of scissors and cut it off," he admits. "I was looking for a pair of scissors and I found one in the bathroom drawer and just reached back there and grabbed the ponytail and just cut it as close as I could get it ... It doesn't look bad."

Tuesday night, June 1, Willie will appear on 'The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson' where he will perform and show off his newly cut locks. The show airs at 11:37 PM ET on CBS.

My late Mom always said "Pretty is as pretty does," and she was a very smart lady. All the good things Willie has done, including performances and the songs he has written, are beautiful. And so is Willie. I have met him a couple of times, and he treated me as if I were as important as anyone else he has met. He posed for a photo with me while we had our arms around each other's waist. His hair was shiny was squeaky clean, and he smelled squeaky clean. Willie is a beautiful person, and would never say the mean things about anyone that you have said about him.

I just want to know what he did with it .... did he throw it away? Did he sell it? Or did he give it to Locks of Love or some other agency that uses hair for a good cause? That was a lot of hair.

Make a real statement, Willie. Shave it all off then style up a white flat-top to honor the troops. That's what I did and I'm a hissin' liberal Democrat 'bout your age.

Except for a few people who really know Willie Nelson for what he is and what he represents, your comments would have been better left unsaid. Willie Nelson is and was a great songwriter who was rejected for his look in Nashville in the late 50s and early 60s and Willie knew what he had and in a song told Nashville producers what he thought of them. He left and went back to Texas and on Liberty records had hit after hit. RCA finally woke up and signed Willie and the rest of the story is there for you to look up.
I and the other djs on www.musictomakeyourearssmile.com play that song regularly plus his other great songs. He has a heart of gold and has given away more money than he has given for gold lessons. He has raised a lot of money for farm aid. Willie, is not ugly and neither is his golf game, wish when i get to Austin i could play a round of golf with this legend. EARS radio loves you Willie Nelson.

Willie Nelson could get a million dollars for his braid, and use the money to build neighborhoods and a music school in Haiti. Go Willie. Hope it was clean when you cut it off, and you considered what it might be worth to those less fortunate. I would give my long hair if it could make a difference in someplace like Haiti.

Some salons will cut your hair for free if you donate your hair to Locks of Love.
Thats what I do, just let it grow out till its all the way down my back and then donate it to Locks of Love.
Saves on hair cuts and Your helping others.

The long hair and beard look is out dated. In the 1980's, I had long hair and a beard and I look like Grizzly Adams. Now in 2010, I am clean shaved and short hair. It gets tiresome after a while. Willie, keep the music going. Good luck.
