Blake Shelton and NRA Country Take Aim at Flood Relief

Blake SheltonBlake Shelton will host the first annual NRACountry sporting clay shoot charity event, sponsored by the National Rifle Association, in conjunction with the CMA Music Festival. The event, which takes place June 10 at the Tennessee Clay Target Complex in Nashville, will benefit Middle Tennessee flood relief efforts through the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

"I am honored that I get to be part of NRACountry's inaugural clay shoot, and that the National Rifle Association has pledged all proceeds from the event to aid Middle Tennessee flood relief efforts," says Blake. "This is what is great about CMA Music Festival. We get to do something we love to do, with our fans, and help raise awareness for a worthy cause while having a great time."

Celebrity captains will lead teams of four shooting participants in the team competition event. Celebrities confirmed to attend the event include Trace Adkins, Rodney Atkins, John Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Justin Moore, Josh Thompson, Chuck Wicks and a few additional surprise guests.

Team sponsorships, which start at $2,000, cover the cost of competition, lunch and an awards reception. The annual sporting clay shoot is a private event and will not be open to the public.

"NRACountry is a collaborative effort between the National Rifle Association and our friends in country music," according to a press release issued by the group. "This natural partnership celebrates shared values: patriotism, freedom, and pride in America. We celebrate these values with concerts and other events that benefit gun safety programs for kids, youth hunting and education programs, efforts to support our armed services, and other worthy causes."

Guns and country music, how can you go wrong? LOL I'm a member of the NRA. I don't listen to much country music but maybe I'll start. In a time of increasing government and decreasing freedoms, I'm glad to see this kind of collaboration. Good decision for Blake Sheldon and the others. I'm very proud of them.

What "decreasing freedoms?" You right-wing nut jobs are so full of it. Too much talk radio. Blake Shelton and the rest of these redneck country artists are doing this to promote their CDs - nothing more. But they may find that getting in bed with an extremist political organization like the NRA isn't such a great idea after all. Most country artists with half a brain wouldn't touch this with a ten-foot pole. There are plenty of other ways to raise or donate money for flood relief. This is a shameful publicity stunt. And, by the way -- I own several firearms, but I'm not paranoid about somebody taking them away from me. Grow up, people. Snap out of it.

Yeah sure, it's a bunch of NRA members out there killing our kids and promoting violence, right? You people are way off base. If every decent law abiding citizen carried a firearm, we'd have the robbing, murdering, rapist running scared! Wake up America, we can't possibly keep guns out of criminals hands. Can we keep drugs from them? Can we stop drunk drivers? Can we stop them from killing with knives, bats,or choking the life from someone with their bare hands. Uh....NO, But I will retain the right to protect my family and neighbors from these dregs. Your anti-gun thinking takes the Power from good men and women and hands it to criminals. How foolish!

in my safty there very talented people they showed me all types of weapons and were pleased to hear me
stat that I did not see the purpose of handguns in society.

One NRA DNR certified instructor said

"thats' what we wanted you to learn here"

it was at a local range I was 13 yrs old.

I don't don't like deer much so I have never bought a rifile or hunting lic. but i think moving forward if I had land and sought the experiance in the pending present I could

I whent bird hunting once and fired at a bird it's very challageing more respectful to the wild and more difficult than deer hunting.

i when to archery class at medow creek school and would most likly bow hunt with a comp bow if I deer hunted. for the repect of the deers life nd to acknowledge the situation of our providing framing businesses.

I think before you shoulder the responsibility of a weapon, you had better learn to read and write.

I hope the donated proceeds will go to help the people Re-do the OPRY building....I heard about how their wasn't enough money from insurance to cover the rebuilding even though they had several million in insurance....
