2010 CMT Awards Winners

Carrie UnderwoodCarrie Underwood was the big winner at the 2010 CMT Music Awards in steamy Nashville, Tenn. Wednesday night. The country superstar took home CMT Performance of the Year for her live rendition of 'Temporary Home' from the CMT special, 'Invitation Only: Carrie Underwood.' She also stakes claim to the night's biggest prize -- Video of the Year, for 'Cowboy Casanova.'

"This is very special to me," Carrie said upon accepting her first award, thanking the fans. "You guys are what makes all of us. We couldn't do what we do without you guys."

Miranda Lambert also thanked fans in her acceptance speech for Female Video of the Year for 'White Liar,' in an upset win over Taylor Swift ('You Belong With Me'), Carrie Underwood ('Cowboy Casanova') and Reba McEntire ('Consider Me Gone').

Male Video of the Year honors went to Keith Urban for 'Til Summer Comes Around.' Lady Antebellum were the Group Video winners with their smash hit, 'Need You Now.' And the soon-to-split Brooks and Dunn take home their last CMT Award as a duo, for 'Indian Summer.'

It's never enough. I think most people in the US are very tolerant of others sexuality. But, of course that wasn't enough. Thus your burning desire for acceptance. This is (was) a free country. You are free to live the lifestyle you choose and you have a right to be tolerated, you have NO RIGHT to force acceptance on ANYONE.

Saying that someone's opinion is retarded is pretty anti-American. This country is founded on believing what you want to believe, and being able to speak freely about it. Everyone has different tastes. For example, you like Taylor Swift, but do you like, I don't know, Alice Cooper? If not, okay. It's your right to not like him. But, there are a lot of people that do. That is why we have so many genres of music!

I was hoping that Billy Currington would win male video. I really like his music and don't think he gets the recognition he deserves. Also, per previous comments, a couple notes. First, Carrie Underwood does write her own music. Her last three singles (Cowboy Casanova, Temporary Home, and Undo It) were all co-written by her. Also, the reason that Carrie could have won video but not female is that some people voted for Miranda for female. Then on video of the year, they decided to vote for Lady A or Toby, or any other nominee. Since the votes were more spread out, Carrie had more and won.

To bad a phenomenal, first-rate country singer like Taylor Swift had to lose to an overrated, crappy, second-rate pop singer like Carrie Underwood. Carrie Underwood is an embarrassment to country music. Taylor Swift, on the other hand, is THE REAL DEAL! Carrie can't even sing! At least Taylor can sing! Just like the Oscars - the least deserving person wins all the awards and the most deserving walks home with nothing. Sad.

Taylor swift is a songwriter/ story teller in the grandest tradition of country music. While her vocals are not the strongest and her music lacks some of the more traditional country instrumentation, her voice is and will continue to get stronger and her music will continue to get better and hopefully as she matures will contain more of the traditional country sound. Right now it is an appropriate and honest reflection of her youth and her life and people shouldn't expect the same type of sound out a teenager as a mature county female singer.
