Blake Shelton Takes Requests for a Good Cause

Blake SheltonHot off his win for Collaborative Video of the Year for Trace Adkins duet 'Hillbilly Bone' at last week's CMT Music Awards, Blake Shelton held his annual fan club party in Nashville. The sold-out crowd at the Wildhorse Saloon was able to dictate what songs their favorite singer performed throughout the evening. For every tune Blake didn't know, he would donate $20 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. His final tally at the end of the evening was $510.

One special request was made by his future mother-in-law, Miranda Lambert's mom, Beverly, who requested the Black Crowes song, 'She Talks to Angels.' While making her request, she told Blake, "I have a $100 request. If you don't know it, you have to double the donation." But much to her surprise, Beverly's future son-in-law performed a jaw-dropping rendition of the song.

'Dancing With the Stars' finalist and ESPN correspondent, Erin Andrews, was at the party and had a special song request for Blake, as well. She requested the Hank Williams, Jr. classic 'Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound,' but rather than having Blake sing the song, she requested it to be sung by Dierks Bentley. The crowd went wild as Dierks took the stage as one of the night's surprise guests, and he performed her request. Other surprise guests were Laura Bell Bundy and Miranda Lambert, who sang Tina Turner's 'Proud Mary' together.

With help from generous donations from fans and friends, Blake raised over $31,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during the evening.

Last week, Blake also joined forces with the NRA for the First Annual NRA Country sporting clay shooting event which featured guests Gretchen Wilson, Jamey Johnson, Josh Thompson, Mark Wills, Justin Moore, Rodney Atkins and Chuck Wicks. The event raised funds for the Middle Tennessee flood relief efforts through the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

I forgot to mention that anyone who is a Blake Shelton fan knows he recorded She Talks To Angels in a studio with just him and a guitar. You can see the video on one of the clear radio channels or U Tube on your computer.
