The Band Perry, 'If I Die Young' - Story Behind the Lyrics

The Boot talks to Kimberly Perry of The Band Perry about their latest hit, 'If I Die Young,' which she wrote for their upcoming debut album, in stores October 5.

'If I Die Young' is actually the first song that we had penned for the album. It defines an early chapter of our music career. We penned it on a cloudy day in East Tennessee, which is where we live and do all of our best thinking. We wanted to write a song about making the most of whatever time you're given -- whether it's two years, twenty years or two hundred.

We really have gotten to live and love at our young ages. 'If I Die Young,' for us, is about if it all ends at this moment, look at what we've gotten to do. Whatever time we're given will be absolutely enough as long as we make the most of it.

It's been really cool on all of our Facebook pages. We've had people writing in and telling us about what this song means to them. People are finding a lot of life through this song. That's the spirit that we wrote it out of. That makes us so excited.

Everytime i here this song i turn it up loud,It is so true about life it self my girlfriend passed away in Oct 2010 from breast cancer she was only 53 i miss her so so much she was like a sister to me she left behind to wonderful boys who i love very much. Kathy had a heart of gold, and your song has her name all over it we played it at her funeral i will always cherish this song i will think of this song as mine and Kathy hope you like it MISS YOU VERY VERY MUCH LOVE YOU ALWAYS EVELYN

this song I dedicated to my sister who died at the age of nine,and also a very dear friend of mine who died at the age of six due to brain cancer,and the mother of that child due to a broken heart=( 6 months after her daughter passed,everytime i hear this song it brings tears to my eyes.Thanks for making such a beautiful song.I miss those people dearly.
