Taylor Swift, 'Mine' -- Story Behind the Lyrics

Big Machine Records

The lyrics to Taylor Swift's new song, 'Mine,' give fans a glimpse into her love life that you'll only hear her sing about. In a webchat held last week, the 20-year old superstar told fans she won't discuss her personal life in interviews, but she "definitely sings about it," especially on her upcoming album 'Speak Now,' set for release on October 14.

Taylor's management team announced on August 4 that they rushed 'Mine,' the album's first single, to iTunes and country radio after "an unauthorized low-quality mp3 file of the single appeared online earlier today. As the low-quality file started to spread virally the decision was made to rush release 'Mine' to iTunes and Country radio to ensure that Taylor's fans were able to hear the single as she intended."

During the webchat, T
aylor also told fans that she didn't use co-writers for the songs on her upcoming album because most of the lyric ideas came to her late at night on her Fearless tour. She also shared the very personal story behind what led her to write 'Mine.'

It's a song that is about my tendency to run from love. It's sort of a recent tendency.

For me, every really direct example of love I have had in front of me has ended in goodbye and has ended in break ups. So I think I've developed this pattern of running away when it is time to fall in love and stay in a relationship.

This song is about finding the exception to that and finding someone who would make you believe in love and realize that it could work out. I'm never, ever going to go past hoping that love can work out. I'm always going to be very hopeful and blindly optimistic when it comes to love even if it does seem like it's very hard.

Tune in to Aol Radio's Top Country radio station, where 'Mine' is playing in heavy rotation, here.

I think Taylor is an amazing entertainer. I'm 47 years old and have already preordered her latest offering. Not to mention she is a great person. Also she doesn't run from the love of her fans. I love Taylor Swift's persona. I wish her the best.

How old are you, 15? You are really tone deaf. Every one in Nashville is tired of her little antics. The awards she has won was because of $$$$ from the kiddies like yourself. Do you not know how the industry works? They don't care about talent, it's all about how much money you can bring in, and a teen ager singing about high school (if you can call it singing) brings in lots of money, as kids don't have bills to pay; Mommy and Daddy do that.

Now Sweetie, go tell Mommy you were a bad girl on the computer and let her ground you.

ur right, she gets money because teenagers like her songs, but what i don't understand is why you feel the need to call people "tone deaf". everyone likes different music. seriously. i mean, i understand if u don't like her, but don't insult other people just because u don't like her singing.

dragonrage, you must be tone deaf. Go to youtube and listen to her sing "I'm Sorry" and "Silent Night" . She can't carry a tune in a bucket

I have. I love her version of Silent Night. Hell of a lot better than over half the versions I've heard. I'll admit I don't like some of her songs but that's more to do with the music and lyrics than her singing.

One more thing I just realized. You must be right. She can't carry a tune in a bucket and that's why she's won all her awards, including a VMA BEFORE the Kanye incident. Silly me.

While her sound does seem more pop-ish than country, you can't deny she's a good singer. Her voice is beautiful and so is her music. For all the people who are saying her songs sound the same, actually -listen-. They are not the same sounding, but maybe that's just because I have a good ear from my audio classes in college.

"Mine" is definitely one of my more favorite Swift songs. Seems more mature and I think everyone to some sort of degree can relate to the song.

"she's a good singer"????? You'd better have your hearing checked, dragonrage. They probably released the version she actually "tried" to sing without all the sound booth help she desperately needs and THAT is why they early released the new and improved version. She can not carry a tune on her own at all and she acts like a rocker, flinging her stupid head/hair around. Get her OFF THE COUNTRY MUSIC SCENE.

FYI casey5553, EVERY SINGER IN THE WORLD gets help from sound booths you bint. And if you BOTHERED to READ the other articles, the label released it early because someone was puting a pirated copy of it that was low quality online.

And I am entitled to my opinion and you to yours. So even if I don't agree with it I will respect your right to say such. Just do me a favor and share it with a wall. I don't care what your opinion on Taylor Swift is. You're just probably one of those people that listen to rap crap secretly.

Taylor Swift is one of the worst singers to claim to be country in years. When she comes on the radio, it change the station. I no longer listen to our local country station because they play her so much. All her songs sound the same.

This is a good song. Have been doubting that T-Swift could write a song that doesn't deal with high school, but if you listen to it, she seems to have grown up. Which is good considering she is now 20 years old, and had 2 years of adulthood to write about adult stuff. I can't wait for more from her. My favorite line from the song is "You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter" that reminds me of myself.

I love this song. I hope she goes back to the style of her first CD, and with "Sparks Fly" on the CD that gives me hope!!! I've been a fan since she released "Tim McGraw" and its kinda neat to see the maturity between "Mine" and songs like "You Belong WIth Me" and "Love Story". This song s alrady the top seller on iTunes.

Sounds like all her other songs. Everything she sings sounds alike...just the words change.

Well, whatever she is doing is working because she has won boat loads of awards, sold millions of records, sold out entire tours and is always on the charts. She has to be doing SOMETHING right... http://www.frontrowking.com/Taylor_Swift/taylor_swift_concert_tickets.html
