It was almost a year ago that Kanye angered millions by storming the stage at the MTV VMA Awards and taking the microphone away from Taylor during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video. Now, with both Kanye and Taylor expected at this Sunday's (September 12) awards show, the rapper is speaking out about his outlandish behavior -- and the moment he wishes he could take back.
"I've hurt, I've bled, I've learned," he says on his Twitter page. "I only want to do good. I am passionate I am human. I am real."
The recipient of everything from death threats to being called a "jackass" by President Obama after the incident, Kanye says he has paid dearly for his mistake. "How deep is the scar," he continues. "I bled hard ... canceled tour with the number one pop star in the world," he tweets, referring to his scrapped run with Lady Gaga.
The rap icon, who later called the country icon to apologize, says he had a hard time continuing with his daily life with all the backlash from his fans. "People tweeted that they wish I was dead," Kanye reveals. "I carry that. I smile and take pictures through that."
Now, with Kanye and Taylor's seemingly inevitable VMA reunion only days away, the man who went down in history for his rude behavior shows signs he may have turned over a new leaf. " I wish I could talk to every hater face to face and change their opinion of me one conversation at a time," he says. "I wish they all knew how much I really cared about music and pop culture and art and peoples feelings ... I wish they could accept that I've grown and only want to do good for the world. I want to help as many people as I can."
Issuing another apology a few days later, saying simply, "I'm sorry Taylor," Kanye says he has extended a different kind of olive branch and hopes she'll accept.
"I wrote a song for Taylor Swift that's so beautiful and I want her to have it," he reveals. "If she won't take it then I'll perform it for her."
Taylor's new album, 'Speak Now,' will hit shelves October 25. Her current single, 'Mine,' debuted in the top five on Billboard's Hot 100 chart when it was released last month. The 27th annual MTV VMA Awards will air live Sunday, September 12 at 9:00 PM ET.
