"Anyone that knows me knows that I am fanatical about two things -- music and sports," says Darius. "This game is the perfect way for all my friends to join me with my sports obsession." The game, launched in partnership with Athlon Sports, allows football fans to pick the team they expect to win each week during football season. Earning points for each accurate selection, the ten highest point earners receive prizes each week, including a Darius sweatshirt and an autographed CD. The winner at the end of the 17-week season will receive a trip for two to Hawaii for the 2011 Pro Bowl.
Darius wants everyone to participate, but says he won't be an easy player to beat. "I'll try not to be too hard on you but I bring my A-game and I play to win, so you better be ready," he warns.
In addition to watching football, Darius is also ready to launch his sophomore album, 'Charleston, SC 1966' on October 12. The CD, he admits, has him filled with nervous anticipation. "I'm going to work my butt off," he tells The Boot. "I'm going to do all the radio [promotions] that we're supposed to do, but it all comes down to the record. If I made a record that people will love, then we'll be fine. If we didn't, then we messed up. I'm excited about it."
Darius will have to watch his favorite football team from the comfort of his tour bus during much of the NFL season. The reigning CMA New Artist of the Year is currently on the second leg of Brad Paisley's H2O World Tour, which runs through November 20. Find show dates here.
