Carrie Underwood Still Adjusting to Married Life

Chris Pizzello, AP

During Wednesday night's 'In the Spotlight With Robin Roberts' television special, newlywed Carrie Underwood opened up about life at home as Mrs. Mike Fisher. Although it's been nearly four months since taking the walk down the aisle, Carrie says she still has trouble wrapping her mind around the fact that she has a husband.

"As soon as we got back to Canada [after the honeymoon], it was like, 'See ya, husband!'" Carrie told Robin. "It was very strange. I really don't feel like I've lived married life yet. It's great ... whatever this is."

Carrie once again put rumors to rest as to when she would be starting a family with Mike, saying it definitely will not be happening any time in the next year. "I'm going to be devastated when I read my first magazine with [the headline] 'baby bump?' with an arrow pointing [to my stomach]," Carrie laughed. "We just want to be together and keep it as simple as possible. I think that the baby would make things so complicated."

One thing that still remains a priority in her married life is the importance of her family. The superstar's current single, 'Mama's Song,' is a tender ballad about a daughter promising her mother that she has found the right man to take care of her little girl for life. The topic is one that hits close to home for Carrie, who co-wrote the tune with Luke Laird, Kara DioGuardi and Marty Frederiksen. "My family is my whole life. For me and my sisters, [my mom] just wants the best for us," she says. "It's a weird life out here [on the road]. It gets lonely, and you need to have that connection with somebody. I know that she definitely prayed many nights for me to just find somebody who would make me and my life better."

Carrie is currently on the road in the midst of her Play On tour with special guests Billy Currington and Sons of Sylvia. Click here for a complete list of upcoming tour dates.

oh and the baby bump comment - I'm sure she was indicating she would be devastated because it would indicate she had gained weight and people were mistaking it for a baby bump.

Hmmm.. . I read the article and to me it seems she has the same adjustments as any married couple. She is just being smart about it and not having children immediately because that's what everyone thinks they should do. Instead, they are learning to live together and adjust to married life first before complicating it with a child. Something a lot of people should have done and didn't. There would be a lot less divorce if they did. Carrie has repeatedly said how happy she is with Mike and I wish them the best.

I think the entire interview (what was presented here) was odd. I don't get a resounding impression she's necessarily happily married. I don't even see how they have any time to be together as a married couple seeing that they travel 24/7. Separately. I've been with my husband 20 years and if I had it to do all over again, there would be less focus on money and achievement and more focus on us being together. With her money and abilities, I would be traveling with my husband and doing a studio album once or twice a year. Cut down the public appearances and get a real married life going on. They've put more stress and complications on the marriage by being apart so much than a baby ever could.

For sure, marriage is a huge adjustment. The biggest part is losing a lot of your individuality. You can't avoid it.

What an odd thing to say, that she would be "devastated" seeing a baby bump picture of herself in a magazine. Guess she's just not ready, and kudos to her for knowing its not the right time, but what a strange way to put it!

I think she was probably referring to the fact that it wouldn' t be a pregnancy belly, but that she was gaining weight....
