Miranda Lambert's 'The House That Built Me' Is CMA Song of the Year

'The House That Built Me' was named CMA Song of the Year, which seemed a good omen for Miranda Lambert to win a few of her own awards later in the evening.

The Song of the Year award is given to the songwriters, and after Miranda, decked out in a silver skirt and black bustier, led writers Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin to the stage, she offered, "I just want to say thank you for writing such a beautiful song, and thank [producer] Scott Hendricks for finding it."

"I've never felt less cool than I do right now, but anyway thank you," said a grinning Tom Douglas. "I'm wearing my beloved father's tuxedo, and I do humbly accept this award. There are so many great songs in the category, I would just love to just celebrate the other great songs. Allen and I are so honored to be up here with you."

Allen added, "Tom and I would both like to thank Gary Overton, Blake Shelton, Scott Hendricks ... Blake could have had the song, and Blake and Scott, they so generously let it go to Miranda."

"The House That Built Me" became Miranda's first No. 1 single in June.

The Heading and Title to this article should read as, "2010 CMA Song of the Year went to Song Writers Allen Shamblin & Tom Douglas" and include a picture of them with Miranda Lambert. My reason for saying this is because it's the truth. The way it is written here, one would think it was Miranda's song and it's not, she just sang it. I'm not trying to discredit her in anyway but instead give the credit where it due and that is with the song writers. That is exactly what it is, "SONG OF THE YEAR" and if you look at any documentation or rules about the award you would know that Miranda did not receive THIS award. When she won the video of the year, Allen & Tom were not up there nor when she won Album of the Year.

It really saddens me and they did not let THE SONG OF THE YEAR award winners say their Thank You's but instead rush them off of the stage. I could understand if it was a "time" issue but there were plenty of other winners that were thanking everyone including their dog and not being pushed off the stage. In fact there was an awkward stall of time to end the broadcast. It's just a shame that such an honor was dismissed to the people that actually deserved it.
