"It's one of those things as a songwriter, you teach yourself in this town to accept disappointment and understand that things don't work out all the time," Troy tells The Boot. "But we'd heard the song had a really good chance for the soundtrack, and then when we found out it was actually going to be in the movie it was so exciting! We took a shot at writing the title track to this thing, and for some reason we're the ones who ended up on [the soundtrack]."
But then came another call ... Sorry, the movie title has changed to 'Country Strong.' But that news didn't take too much icing off of Troy's cake.
"We were still so excited," Troy insists. "What really added to that was when we found out Patty Loveless was going to sing the female harmonies. I've been such a big fan of hers for so long."
Another lovely lady Troy admires is the Oscar-winning star of 'Country Strong.' "I saw Gwyneth Paltrow," Troy gushes of spotting the actress on the red carpet of the film's Nashville premiere. "Apparently she's happy in that marriage [to Coldplay's Chris Martin] ... I asked. [laughs]"
'Love Don't Let Me Down' is on the 'Country Strong' soundtrack, sung by Patty and Chris Young. Troy's own debut EP for EMI, featuring his hits 'Summer Thing' and 'Good Hands,' was released last month.
