Eddie Montgomery Beats Prostate Cancer

Dan Steinberg, AP

Christmas has come early for Montgomery Gentry's Eddie Montgomery, who is resting at home following a successful surgery earlier this week to treat prostate cancer. According to his publicist, Eddie's doctors say that no further treatment should be needed. Congrats, Eddie!

Eddie announced his condition last month in a press release. "Yes, rumors have started," Eddie wrote. "And the truth is I have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I will be undergoing surgery to remove the cancerous tumor in December. I will be back in January ready to rock for all the fans! Please keep my family and I in your prayers."

It's been a busy 2010 for the duo, who just finished up their touring schedule Dec. 4. Eddie plans to break for the holiday season, which he will spend with his family.

This is some much-needed good news for the singer, who announced his impending divorce to wife Tracy earlier this month. Eddie posted the news on Twitter and Facebook December 1: "U find out u got cancer then u found out ur wife can't handle that so she files for a divorce ... merry christmas," Eddie tweeted in a post that has since been taken down. "She says she's a Christian wow ... I think I need to get her a bracelet 'what would Jesus do' 'cause I hope he [is] still here with me."

His publicist confirmed to The Boot that Tracy filed for divorce because, according to Eddie, she couldn't cope with his illness.

A few days later, Tracy took to her Facebook page to make her case. "There are two sides to every story," she stated on her Facebook page (quote via USA Today). "Despite what is being said, Eddie's cancer had absolutely nothing to do with my decision. It's what the public doesn't know that finalized an extremely difficult decision that I was forced to make. I'd like to thank everyone for their kind words and support during this most traumatic time in our lives. For the sake of my children, I prefer to handle things from here on out in a private manner."

After the holidays, Eddie and duo partner Troy Gentry will be headed back out for a USO Tour in early 2011.

Somehow or another I don't believe that it was his illness (prostrate cancer) that led to their divorce. I think the marriage had crumbled long before he was diagnosed. If it was strong and committed before, it should been able to survive it. Whats that old saying... "In sickness and in health". Has sort of a ring to it doesn't it.

I agree 100%. Everyone was so quick to jump on and beat down his wife because *he* said that's why she left. I also think that this has been a long time coming. Maybe he was physically/verbally abusive, who knows? Maybe he strayed while on tour while she stayed home and raised the kids, who knows? It could have even been a situation of her filing just days before his diagnosis, none of us know the story. There's always two sides, and while I'm thrilled that he beat this, he kinda comes off as a jerk. I've heard more than one person that I know attest to this, but I don't want to crucify him unfairly, either, without seeing it for myself firsthand. It'll all come out in the wash, anyway, and life will move on for them both. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he doesn't stay bitter/jaded over the divorce. They need to stay civil for the kids' sake. As crazy as it sounds, a couple will sometimes get along *better* after they divorce......just ask my sister.

I know how that feels, same thing happened to me.

Some people assume nothing will happen to them. Karma will get the last word.
