Court Yard Hounds Talk Secret Project With Natalie Maines

Sony

The Court Yard Hounds were back Tuesday night (January 18) with another web chat, answering fans' questions live online. Sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robison talked for nearly 40 minutes about everything from reality shows, Toby Keith, and playing on Steve Martin's new album to a new super-secret project with Natalie Maines.

Fans are still wondering about Natalie and her current employment status, which the girls quickly cleared up. "She is being a mom and, no, she is not giving up the music business," Emily explained. "We are actually going to go to Los Angeles this week to work on a top-secret project with her tomorrow."

"It's a musical project," Martie added.

Later, the duo were asked if their music could be heard in any upcoming movies or TV shows, to which Emily replied: "That's part of why we're going to L.A. tomorrow, but we can't say why or what show."

Next, Emily was asked if she's considered releasing a solo album of banjo tunes. "I haven't had that itch yet," she admitted. "But, we did just get to play on Steve Martin's new banjo/bluegrass album that is coming out in March or April. That was huge for me because I'm a huge fan of Steve Martin but the fact that we got to be on the album was pretty cool. In the studio he brought out all his banjos and let me play on them. It was a great banjo nerd/banjo nerd moment."

Then came the real kicker, would you ever be on a reality show? "No, I have no desire," Emily said. "I did find it very fascinating to watch 'Skating With the Stars' ... I had to put the covers over my eyes because it was so embarrassing to watch."

"I would never go on 'Dancing With the Stars,' because I'm not the greatest dancer in the world," Martie added. "But when I watch 'The Apprentice' sometimes I'm like, 'I could do that task.' The only reason I would not do that is that I could never call people for money and on that show you have to be willing to call people for money."

Another question pointed out one of the newer songs that Emily had written, asking the inspiration behind it. "'Then Again' is an amalgamation of different people I've know through relationships, or just growing up with or have observed in my life," Emily admitted. "I put them all in one person and went with experiences and stories that I've had in my head for the last few years and made this one person ... It's more introspective, how I wish had spoken up."

As for new music, fans are going to have to wait just a bit longer. "We are going to be, hopefully, releasing something dare I say this spring, this summer," Emily said. "We are in the studio right now working on it."

The special treat of the night came during their performance, which owing to Martie's chest cold, had to be instrumental. The sisters were joined by special guest, Irish import and Martie's husband Gareth Maguire, whom the duo have "been talking about finding a way to showcase" on the album.

Before signing off, Emily had a bit of a rant and asked fans to go listen to Toby Keith's latest single ['Bullets In the Gun'] and Robert Earl Keen's 'The Road Goes On Forever' to discern whether or not they sound the same. You be the judge.

Keeping the polarizing political standoff separate for the moment, I have a

legitimate complaint. Since when has voicing political discontent (Dylan anyone ?)

been cause for censure or outright hatred for artists?
I get so discouraged. I'm a disabled Vietnam veteran and my father was an

honorable World War II veteran. How many times must we learn that you can still

be patriotic and protest the war? I don't get it. Our 1st Amendment is being ignored

if not trampled on.
#1 the right to seek information and ideas;
#2 the right to receive information and ideas;
#3 the right to impart information and ideas.
I think it's disgraceful that Natalie's constitutional rights were dismissed so

vehemently and dismissively. These amazingly talented ladies have truly suffered

for their art.
I write and sing songs about the lives of veterans after coming home in the folk,

Americana & country categories, charting on Roots Music Report.
I make no apologies and believe that's what we sacrificed our minds and bodies

to uphold the right to. If a young man or woman returning from the Middle-East

should hear my song: "No Shame In Cryin," and seek help for Post-Traumatic

Stress then that is greater than any award ever made.

I am not a Dixie Chicks or country music fan but after watching their movie I felt their last album was full of inspiration.
I find it very funny that all the bashing that was started in 2003 is continuing to this day. If you can't get over Natalie's comment and refuse to listen to the Dixie Chicks why are you still posting to their site?
Natalie was ashamed that she was from the same state as Bush. That was her opinion. As American's we are all free to share our opinions, that is why there is a statue in New York Harbor and the word LIBERTY on your quarters! That is why your ancestors moved from their homelands and settled in this nation.

If you feel that Natalie was un-American for her words that is your free opinion. No one can ever tell you you're wrong. Some other people feel it is Un-American to fly a Confederate flag, the symbol of a rebellion that killed brothers.

Enjoy the music or move on. Stop holding a grudge and making it more than it is.

The "Dixie Chicks" went to another country and blasted the USA. They are unAmerican.

They did not as I recall blast America, they expressed their opinion about one of the worst Presidents we have ever had. Even worse than Clinton. If you listen to what was said you would know they very much support our troops. Do you think the millions of Americans who despise Bush are un-American? If you and these other vile commenters hate the Chicks so much, why bother reading about them? I think you are narrow minded and sick.

Sure they can express themselves. They are free to do so. But one must understand that there are consequences for your actions. When MS M opened her big mouth it wasn't good business sense. Obviously she isn't too bright or she would have understood the impact it could make on her career. She has every right to jeapordize her own career.

This is America and everyone has the right to free speech...that being said, when you open your mouth, you'd better be prepared to take the heat for what ever it is you say. They were NOT prepared and now the majority of their audience has disappeared. I am one of them. Their music was magical and their talent undisputed but I heard "Wide Open Space" by accident the other day and thought, what a shame, the waste of talent and injustice they put upon their selves. For the sake of their career, the should just SHUT UP AND SING.

Two remaining tight-lipped? Let me guess which one of the three is flapping her lips. Could it be foot in mouth Natalie?????

I cannot stand these ugly, washed up communists. They should be put on a garbage scow and sent to Russia. All 3 are loud mouth bitches and anyone who supports their dorky, hillbilly music should go with them to the other side of the world. I fu*$ing hate them. Die bitches.
