Carrie Underwood Lands in Radio Station's Penalty Box?

Everybody knows Canadians take their hockey very, very seriously, but one radio station in the Canadian capital of Ottawa may be getting just a little "Carrie-d" away with its fanaticism.

The New 105.3 KISS FM is upset that Carrie Underwood's husband, former Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher, has just been traded to the Nashville Predators, and they have instituted a ban on playing any of Carrie's music.

A mainstay on the Senators' roster for ten years, Mike has been a tremendously popular player in Ottawa, and the announcement of his departure has been met with wild objection from the city. Looking for a scapegoat, Carrie is being charged with the ridiculous claim that she "lured" Mike away, despite the fact that the Senators are undergoing a rebuilding of their team and have also traded centerman Chris Kelly to the Boston Bruins. She's even been referred to as hockey's Yoko Ono!

The Toronto Sun reports that the station commented, "We know Mike Fisher is not to blame for this trade, but feel he was lured away from Ottawa by a country-music superstar. Sure, she's pretty. Yes, she can sing. But can she play hockey? Can she put one on the top shelf with a slap shot? No!" (A bizarre comment, considering that we don't recall asking Mike Fisher if he could sing when he and Carrie were married!)

The ban on Carrie's music is permanent, says KISS 105.3 program director Gayle Zarbatany. She told the Sun, "This [Mike's trade] is a wrenching announcement and the city is completely upset," she complained, adding that, while harsh, the Yoko comparison, "is what it is."

But is this all a joke? KISS 105.3 is a pop station -- boasting current hits by Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Nelly, Katy Perry and the like -- and probably never played Carrie Underwood music in the first place.

Regardless, not all Ottawa radio stations are acting like sore losers. Y101-FM morning deejay Mark Papousek tells the Ottawa Sun he's grateful for the time the newlyweds spent in Ottawa. "Carrie brought a lot to the city. She was one of us. She fit nicely into the Ottawa Valley. They did a lot of fundraising and charity work here," he said. "They'll be great together in Nashville, but right now, it's a big loss for Ottawa."

Carrie's latest tune, 'Songs Like This,' has just entered the Billboard chart at No. 52. You'll find it closer to 101 than 105 on your FM radio dial in Canada's capital city.

omg, Canada has got to be the "whiniest" country that there is! So f'ing what, if her husband happened to get traded to Nashville, or New Orleans, or wherever the hell he got placed! Why, is it Carrie's fault? I think Canada is getting a bit Carried away with this one!

Im a big Carrie Underwood fan and anything to keep her in the US and beating taylor swift im all for it! Carrie has amazing talent and the people over there banning her music must not understand? It wasnt Carrie or Mike that made that decision it was the Hockey teams management! But Im still glad shes staying in the US :)
