Carrie Underwood's 'Change' Adds Up to $140,125 for Charity

Save the Children

Carrie Underwood was in Nashville on Thursday (February 23), to present Mark Shriver, Senior Vice President of U.S. Programs for Save the Children, with a check for $140,125.68. That amount, collected from concert tickets sold between September and December 2010, is directly related to the lyrics of one of the superstar's songs.

In September last year, when Carrie kicked off the fall leg of her wildly successful Play On tour, she announced she would be donating donating 36 cents from every ticket sold to Save the Children's U.S. programs.

It was a charitable idea inspired by the '36 cents' lyric in the track, 'Change,' from her album, 'Play On.' The song is built around the idea that every single penny adds up to make a difference to help 'change' the world.

During her 2010 Play On tour, Carrie played 108 shows for over 1 million fans throughout the U.S. and Canada.

It is truly sad that "fans" would trash other artists for their contributions to charitable organizations. Who cares if their pictures are shown with an overblown check! Idiots like mike4425w does it because he likes to get a rise out of Carrie fans. He truly loves Taylor who cannot carry a tune, much less sing her way out of a paper bag. But that's OK mike-we feel your pain everytime she opens her mouth. Now, if you have so much distain for Carrie-quit commenting on her site and by all means, take your childish behavior elsewhere. Carrie fans now know your agenda and so do I and will no longer respond to your child like rants. Go away little girl and grow up-you are pathetic!

mike4425w - C.A.T.S. is not just for animals. You don't know what you are talking about. She didn't "lend" her name. She created this foundation and puts money in it to fund it regularly. This foundation is HER foundation that goes to support animals, Checotah town projects and school projects (such as instruments).

yofithebest - Miranda is a fantastic artist. There is no need to lift Carrie up by bringing Miranda down. They are both wonderful artists that represent country music and the women in the industry. They are incredible artists that are both givers and are both very talented.

Carrie let them use her name for the C.A.T.S foundation! She donated no money her self! PEDIGREE® dog and Cat food donated the money! It was for cats and dogs in Oklahoma! When is Carrie ever going to help the Nashville flood victim's like all the other country singers have! Reba gave 100,000 , Taylor 500,000 Garth 5,000,000 Carrie 0

Carrie, the biggest and most talented female country star does not need any PR, she is miles above most in the industry.. you are a jealous fool, and probably a Miranda "overrated/average" Lambert fan since only her fans seems to bash Carrie. Just watch the Grammys and you will see ML choke again.. just like the CMAs.. each live performance is painful to watch and reminds the world that her awards have been bought and paid for by her label, husband, and industry who needs to push the new "product".

I have seen it. #1 If you've missed Taylor and her big check then you weren't looking. We choose to see what we want to see. #2 The above event was specifically to provide further promotion to this charity. Carrie hardly needs promotion since she's wrapped up her tour.

Carrie has given a ton more than this money. As just a couple of examples of many she and her husband actively fund her C.A.T.S foundation and provide funds to several childrens charity's in Ottowa.

I have never seen Garth Brook's and Taylor Swift ever have a fake big check made just so they can have there picture taken with it! We just here that they gave money and someone just puts up what ever old picture they have of both of them! Taylor Swift gave $500,000 to Nashville flood victim's! People have said that Garth has given as much as 5,000,000 this year! Carrie gives $140,000 and has a fake check made so everyone knows about! That was nice but she is a publicity hound!

Are you kidding? First off, Carrie gives all the time. She has an on-going charity with her C.A.T.S. foundation.

Secondly, I see Garth Brook, Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney's, and Rascal Flatts pictures up constantly in relationship to their charity donations. And, forever am I seeing Toby Keith, Montgomery Gentrey, etc. promotion around their U.S.O trips.

These are all generious people. The fans (thus the media) is interested in this stuff so it gets reported from time to time. The left coast gives us "stars" in the news for every other reason other than giving a flip about anyone else.

Leave it to Carrie’s promotion team to always put her picture up! This is the most she has every given away bye far! $140,000 is nice I do agree! But not as much as alot of others have done to help Nashville! This is more helping yourself with good publicity then helping Nashville! No one else puts there picture up! You just hear about what they gave! If Carrie gives $300,000 or $500,000 to Nashville and no picture up I will just say thank you very much Carrie! That is giving!
