"If you are going to talk to anybody about anything, talk to your spouse," Garth tells The Boot. "That's it. No matter what. Even if it's about your spouse, it's all about communication. That's the secret."
Another secret Trisha shared is that when she and Garth married they made a vow to cherish his teenage daughters Taylor, August and Allie. The five of them always celebrate Garth and Trisha's wedding anniversary together.
"When we got married five years ago, we married the girls," stepmom Trisha tells People of Garth's daughters from his first marriage. "So the five of us always celebrate together."
Last year, Garth, Trisha and the girls spent the big evening watching the Disney movie, 'Tangled,' at a theater near their home in Oklahoma.
"We all talked about it and said, 'Let's go see a movie'," Trisha said. "We all actually really want[ed] to see it."
The previous year, the family had to change anniversary plans at the last minute because of a schedule conflict -- and it wasn't Garth's.
"We had a big night planned and at the last minute they moved the youngest one's Christmas carol program to that night," Garth told People magazine. "I promised them a big, fancy dinner, but we went and grabbed McDonald's fries and went home."
By the way, President George H.W. Bush, in whose honor the Points of Light event was held, has been married to wife Barbara for 66 years.
