Alan Jackson to Perform at Relay for Life Event

Jeff Gentner, AP

Alan Jackson is set to perform a benefit concert at the Rogersville Middle School in Rogersville, Tenn., on April 14. Tickets for the Relay for Life of Hawkins County, organized by TV/radio personality and Rogerville's own Charlie Chase, sold out immediately.

Alan's fans, a very diverse group, showed up to purchase tickets for a chance to see him in an intimate show, while also helping to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

"You just can't say enough about country music fans," says Alan. "I've had fans that have to have a walker to get to the show ... and some that have to have their mama carry them there! I've got this wide range of fans ... It's just amazing how diverse the people are when I'm out there singing. One minute I feel like I'm supposed to be singing a gospel song for this lady and a drinking song for this man. It's kind of confusing, but it works."

Relay for Life is an initiative of the American Cancer Society to raise funds and awareness, while involving communities around the nation in the fight against cancer. More than four million events are held in more than 5,000 communities throughout the U.S. each year.

Alan is taking some time away from the recording studio as he heads north of the border for a brief Canadian tour. He will perform in Calgary, Alberta, Canada tonight (March 29) and Edmonton on Wednesday (March 30). Check out the rest of Alan's tour dates here.
