"It's a really fun show. It took us a long time to tape it, because we had to piece it together, and it was an all-night deal, but it's going to be worth it," Reba tells The Boot. "What I like about those kinds of things is that the guys are singing the girls' songs, and they sound so different. That's the really deep part about hearing a person sing another person's songs. I can't say that they're better, but they're different and they just give another dimension to that song. So, it's a huge night for the songwriters, and the girls are honored, and we get to hear our favorite singers sing our songs. It's a really fun night."
Rascal Flatts performed 'Why Haven't I Heard From You,' Reba's 1994 Top 5 hit. The trio were then joined by the Queen of Country on 1993 No. 1 hit, 'The Heart Won't Lie,' which originally featured Vince Gill.
"I had a really big time before the show started," Reba continues. "We were all interviewed together, and to get to hang out with the girls and take pictures with them, it was a lot of fun."
Prior to the ACM Awards, Reba was named the recipient of the Career Achievement Award, and the title of the award, in essence, confused her a bit. "I really wasn't sure what that was," the superstar said. "Matter of fact, Melissa Peterman texted me and said, 'Congratulations!' I said, 'What for?' She said, 'Well, you got the Career Achievement Award.' I said, 'What's that for?' She said, 'Well, I don't know, but they're all tweeting about it.' I really didn't understand what it was for, except maybe an achievement for my career, and that's great."
As Reba gave one of her famous looks, the small gathering of journalists burst out laughing. "I'm here anyway. I showed up," she jokes. "You didn't have to give me a special award." She consulted her label representative to ask if he knew any more information than what she just explained, and he said he believed it signifies growth in a specific year, so they recognize her successes over the past couple of years. "Oh, well, nobody told me that! So, I was kind of the Rookie of the Year," she laughs heartily. "I'm on my way!"
Well, if you count 60 Top 10 hits, 35 No. 1 singles, a television career, a hit Broadway musical under her belt and a successful clothing line as a rookie, then she is most certainly destined for even bigger and better things to come her way.
Actually, the description from the Academy of Country Music states the Career Achievement Award "is presented to an individual artist, duo, group or multiple artist collaboration who have advanced the popularity and acceptance of country music through their endeavors in the entertainment industry in multiple areas during the preceding calendar year."
Reba has already started her charge up the country charts with her latest single, 'When Love Gets a Hold of You' from her album, 'All the Women I Am.'
