Reba McEntire's New Single Took 'Hold' One Sleepless Night

Do you find yourself humming Reba McEntire's new single, 'When Love Gets a Hold of You,' while lying in bed at night? Well, she does too! The country music superstar recalls one sleepless night when she realized she may have let the latest offering from her 'All the Women I Am' album slip through her fingers.

"I was thinking, 'Oh my gosh, is that a song on the radio, or is that a song I've been hearing out of all of the demos? ... And have I put it on hold?'" Reba explains to GAC, recounting one evening during the album making process.

The country icon quickly called her record label to secure the song, penned by Jessi Alexander, Jon Randall and Gary Nicholson.

"I said, 'Did we put this song on hold? If we haven't, put it on hold, and if we have, double hold it,'" Reba quips. "I just knew it was a very strong song that I wanted to sing. It was worth that one night of sleep that I missed."

Lucky for us, the tune made the final cut on her latest album, which also spawned the No. 1 song, 'Turn on the Radio.'

While 'When Love Gets a Hold of You' climbs the charts, Reba can be found co-headlining a pair of tornado relief shows in her home state of Oklahoma with fellow Okie Blake Shelton on May 25.

This is one of the least catchy songs I've ever heard. This one is a strike out. Reba can do much better.

Wish it would climb the charts. I love this song and radio just won't play it. I don't understand. It won all the new single duels on my local stations and they still don't play it. Oh well. I travel quite a bit and would listen to the radio but no more. I'll just have to pop in my CD's from now on. Goodbye radio.

I'm with you on that, Luke. This song is amazing. Radio should be ashamed of themselves for not playing. Just like they didn't play, "If I Were A Boy", when it was the most requested country song in the nation.

I agree. I heard nothing but positives about the song and in articles from listeners. Where I live there are two country stations. I requested every day, emailed, etc. They never once put it on their playlist. Radio has done Reba and this song wrong! I have heard it once on radio. This is a great song and much better than some that are in the top ten right now! Sorry, I think that the music industry got scared that Reba was going to top the charts again after hitting #1 with Consider Me Gone for 4 weeks and Turn on the Radio. So word got out that Reba can't be on top again because our newer younger artists are the ones they wanted. (just my opinion) If she doesn't have a top 5 song for a couple of runs, she won't be in contention for female vocalist. Don't know much about how the nashville music industry works but I bet there is some politics going on with radio. If I were a boy was beautiful and so was the video. Radio let us down on Boy and my gosh they certainly did it on WLGAHOY! I hate to tell the music industry this but they need to know........that REBA ain't goin nowhere.
