Scotty McCreery Breaks 20-Year Chart Record

Scotty McCreery doesn't waste any time. A week after winning 'American Idol,' the singer's first single, 'I Love You This Big' -- which premiered at No. 32 on the Billboard Hot Country chart -- is the highest-charting debut for a new artist since January 20, 1990, according to the publication.

"I am humbled and shocked by this news," Scotty says. "I can't tell you what it means to me to be on the same charts as my musical heroes. I want to thank my fans and especially country radio for their support. I continue to be amazed by everything that has happened to me in such a short time."

In addition, the tune hit No. 1 on iTunes and No. 3 on the Billboard Digital Songs chart with 171,404 units sold. "This is such a special song to me, so I am thrilled that it is getting such a great reception at country radio," Scotty continues. "What I love about 'I Love You This Big' is that it can mean different things to different people. It could be about the relationship between a couple in love or a parent and child."

Granted, the 17-year-old was breaking records while still on 'American Idol,' winning the show with a unprecedented 122.4 million votes. "I feel like the words 'thank you' aren't enough," he admits. "I wish I could find more words to express my gratitude to everyone. I still can't believe how people are supporting me in so many ways."

Scotty will get a chance to thank fans in person when he travels to CMA Music Festival in Nashville next week. He'll participate in the City of Hope Celebrity Softball Game Saturday (June 11), following his Grand Ole Opry debut Friday (June 10).

In addition, Scotty can be found on the small screen again with an appearance on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' June 15.

After that, he hits the road on the American Idols Live tour, which kicks off July 6 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Scotty, I'm a 69 yrold male when i saw you on idol I fell in love with country all over, You will be the biggest star in country you top all country singers now and the past .whenI was told I had cancer I was down and out then you came along in January and made me feel better thank you good luck .John

I am glad to see Scotty doing well, a grain of salt is also need here. This was the first pure country Idol coronation song and Scotty was only 6th out of 10 idol winners in first week sales, with the last 2 years doing poorly and two 2nd places did better than the winner. I just think he will need to afew years older before he really takes off in sales since less than 1% of viewers purchased his song.

I love Scotty's song and I bought it from I-tunes. I love his voice and his sweet, country personality. He's a real nice young man and I admire that. I voted for him every week. So glad that he won!
